What do we think by 2025 means for voice to text? Is that by next December??

Take that with a large grain of salt. They were planning to release enhanced driving assist by the end of 2024 but there was no mentioning of it in the recent end of year update leak. Who knows when will that happen. Hope Rivian gives clear communication when they are changing plan instead of silently delaying/cancelling features.

Possibly Dec 2025, have there been any reports of it even being in Beta yet? They don't have a great track record when it comes to releasing features on time.

I don’t get the point. Tesla has it and it’s horrible. You can’t handle proper texting over only Bluetooth, especially with groups. They need to at least implement Siri Eyes Free, which is a 15 year old technology, and let the phone (Siri) do the lifting.

Or…get with the 21st century and just let CarPlay do it ?

“Hey Siri Send a text message” has been working really well for me for years In other vehicles. And WOW it works in the Rivian too. Who’d a thunk? /s

I also do this, as long as the phones face up, then when you say Siri the truck already pauses the music and allows you to complete all Siri’s functions (yes while using the native Rivian audio apps it still works)

only wanted to double down in case some folks never tried it and would want to use it

I don’t get this obsession with voice controls. I think it’s worse than a gimmick. Currently we have independent channels:
- Voice to communicate with other people in the car–and you can have six other people in an R1S!
- Hands and feet to control the vehicle.
By overloading that first channel, everything suffers.

Funny how when connectivity (or whatever it was called before they started charging for it) was free there was silence from Rivian regarding Texting other than the occasional "s00n". Same goes for Apple music, livestreaming Gary video, Google Cast, etc. Now that they want everyone to pay $$$ to subscribe to C+ they start rolling out the features owners have been asking for over the last three years. Basic strategic business planning 101 I guess..

I think it’s a critical feature for most. For me, it just gives me an excuse to say “if it’s important call me” OR “if you don’t get a text response just call me”.

As far as when…2025 has 12 possible right answers assuming 12 monthly software updates. Let’s remember video capability was being worked on back in the summer of 23 and it was just announced to come in the next update.

it encourages us to hear each others voices though so I choose to see the positive side of it. ?

Not when the phone is in your pocket or the radio is up.

Unless as someone mentioned earlier you have a corporate controlled phone that locks SIRI down when phone is locked you can flip the switch to allow SIRI when locked.

It does not open everything but does allow interaction with texting.

I’ve had limited luck with Siri hearing me through my pants. Especially if I’m playing music or podcast. I can use my watch, sure, but I’m just asking for a wheel button to activate Siri, which my 2011 Ford Fusion could do. It’s safer to have a wheel button do it. I know we will never get CarPlay so that’s a nice-to-have (and easy to implement) trade off without them giving too much control to the phone.
