I have given up on the R1. The first gen was outdated two years ago and now, between an underwhelming driving experience and Rivian pretty much end of life’ing it with the Gen2, not a convincing product. And the Gen 2 is ridiculously priced.

Starting at 120k to almost 200K is pretty much laughable. If I had 200K for a new BEV, Rivian is on the bottom of my list for a lot of reasons.
So the R1 is a ‘no thanks Rivian’ from me.

I have a pre-order for the R2, but I have zero confidence Rivian will hit the 45K (US) pricing.
What's on your list at those prices? For me the only other competitor would be the silverado RST but it's kind of ugly and GM's track record on reliable EVs is suspect.

Nothing else tows my trailer the only reason I own a truck BEV, otherwise I'd probably drive a Lucid

Which is also weird given how many (unsold) vehicles they have sitting at the BC service center right now. A lot.
Are they unsold, on a delivery hold of some sort for QA, or backlogged deliveries?

I asked the SC rep (I was in two weeks ago to have a window trim place fixed) and he said “a number of them” were unsold. Didn’t specify, but I took it to mean quite a few. Tons with no plates.

I was there for an hour and a half and one delivery happened, plus two guys came in with appts with heavily worn tires. Made me so happy to have been active in this community to learn all sorts of tips and tricks to keep my R1T in tip top shape, like avoid Conserve if you don’t need it! Electrons are still cheaper than rubber.

The GVWR exempts R1 vehicles from luxury tax.

Lack of availability hurts their marketshare more than pricing does. There are still giant chunks of canada where rivian flat out won't sell you a vehicle.
I'm hoping despite having taken weight out of the car that the Gen2 is still exempt

It's the gross weight rating, so maximum weight. Seems to still be ~3800kg.

TBD
Any word from them on when Gen 2s will arrive in Canada?
They didn't even have any yet for demo drives in Burnaby (apparently they are at US spaces for test drives however) but are hoping for early Fall.

If you are asking about delivery estimates on orders, the Rivian website will estimate that
if you attempt to build a particular model.

not a rivian... yet
Really wanting to buy one, but paying 30% on top of the exchange is really hard to justify. especially when you stary playing the "what other cars can i buy at $140k" game...

really hope they come to their senses soon

So looks like Rivian confirmed Canadian R2 pricing starting at $66,500 which is just slightly over the current US/CDN exchange rate -- a huge relief as I was worried these things might be pushing 100k by the time they reached the Canadian market.
