Just curious because I have never seen my R1T give me these types of numbers (I have the latest update 2025.18.01). This is with my 20" AT factory tires that now have 13k miles on them.

Granted this was for driving downhill from Leadville, CO, to Buena Vista, CO (a 2k elevation drop), but I have never seen anything close to 6.37 mi/kWh in conserve mode.

I got 9+ going from Vail Pass towards Denver this week and have gotten 11+ from the top of Hoosier pass into Fairplay. My arrival destination is always way off when going home to Colorado Springs from the mountains. Gotta love elevation and gravity!

So, nothing to see here ...

Previously, the User Interface limited the displayed number to 4.0x (I forget, 4.01 or something). Now things have changed and it is limited to 10.0x.

That doesn't mean your Rivian has gotten more efficient. It just means that the way the number are calculated has changed.

First, the efficiency is now averaged over a shorter time. That means the graph will be more "spikey", with higher highs and lower lows. Theoretically, when rolling down a hill, this number goes to infinity because you will be using 0 kWh over a distance, and divide by 0 is infinity. Obviously showing an instantaneous number isn't very helpful, that's why this has always been a time-averaged number.

The "old" way displayed a number averaged over a longer period of time, so it was closer to the drive average. The "new" way displays a number that is closer to the maximum efficiency. And just like the difference between peak and RMS voltage, the RMS ("old way") will always be lower.

Second, the numerical limit was removed. You were always able to get >4mi/kWh, but the graph was always clipped at 4 and the number below the graph was always limited to 4. In the new software, the graph is still clipped at 4 but the number is now limited to 10, making it appear you are getting higher efficiency.

My highest was 4.17 around Houston.

I live on a hill, about 500ft elevation. Every day I drive, it's going to be down the hill, and back up to get home.

I get 6mi/kwh easily just by Regen-cruising down the hill, and then keeping the throttle light for whatever I need to do downtown. Usually in the Energy monitor, Gary think that is either "normal" or "high" energy impact, your guess is as good as mine why.

Of course, when I head back home up the hill, it's going to be ~1.5mi/kwh, and Gary will say that merits an energy impact of "low." Sometimes I really don't get the energy monitor!

8.36 is my best. Thats coming back into Coachella Valley which is a slight down grade and a very strong tail wind.

10.0 as reported on the graph. But technically infinite/negative 🤪. I live at 8500 feet, and when I drive down to boulder (5400 feet, and I stop in town - this morning for example), I have more energy in the battery than I left with. Left house this morning with 70% and arrived at my daughter's preschool with 71%.

IMHO, that graph is absolutely meaningless. It really has no relevance to overall efficiency. I’ve seen it go to 9 or more going downhill. But, who cares? It’s not like I am going to see that efficiency for any extended period of driving. So, what’s the point? I’m in the mountains a lot. I always gain battery percentage and miles on the way down. But, I’m usually just hoping to regain most of what I spent going up. The only meaningful efficiency #’s are what one gets over a longer period of time - like a 1000 miles or more. So many things seem to affect efficiency (weather, wind, battery condition, speed, etc, etc.) that it seems meaningless to get all excited about one short drive.

I’ve logged every drive, on a spreadsheet, since 1/1/2025, going on 7000 miles. I have seen the #’s jump all over the place, but I now have a pretty good idea what range I can expect, under varying conditions. And yet, I’m often surprised (good and bad) by certain individual drives. I’m always trying to come up with an explanation for these fluctuations. It’s often a mystery 🤔 Besides winter vs. summer weather and very aggressive driving, the things I have noticed that affect efficiency the most are speed (anything over about 65mph), even slight inclines or declines, and any wind (especially side or head winds).

considering an R1S
Wait, how on earth was this achieved? Was it an erroneous calculation or did you coast downhill for the previous 100 miles 😅

Looks like it's not capped right at 10.0...

No major elevation change, just smooth driving.
