Had an appt this morning at Mavis tire and break as I thought Rivian said this was one place to get tires rotated and they turned me away saying they don’t have the right equipment to lift underneath. What are some other vendors? Thanks

If you have jacking pucks, you can almost certainly get it done at your local auto shop or a nearby tire place. You should also be prepared to run the shop through the (not very daunting) settings needed for tire work. My local shop was more than happy to handle a tire swap on my R1T, though I needed to provide the pucks, and made sure to walk them through the process. When he saw the pucks, the service manager commented that older Corvettes needed something similar for lifting.

You could get away with having and using just one puck, but a set of four is not all that costly. Keeping them in the car will ensure that any non-Rivian roadside assistance will be able to help change a tire in the event of an emergency.

Don’t count on Discount Tire. Bad advice. Multiple threads about how they damaged cars despite official position of having equipment and know-how.

Aside from nuance’s of lifting, there is absolutely nothing proprietary about tire rotations on a Rivian. Educate yourself and read Rivian’s tow operator guide. This info is also in your owner guide. https://rivian.com/support/article/r1-tow-operator-guide

Get yourself a set of good jack pucks and have conversations with trusted local shops; pass along pertinent info in the tow operators guide. Or, get/find yourself the tools to DIY. See Riviandad’s YT video.

I think I might get the SC to do it even though I'm at 6,300+ miles out of the 7,500 since it'll be there for service. Not worth waiting another 1k miles and then going back again. It doesn't pull so not sure if I should ask for an alignment too.

It's right in the on-screen manual in your Rivian.

From Section 16:
1. Go to Drive Modes > All-Terrain (under Off-Road on Quad Motor vehicles). Then choose Highest
under Ride Height.
2. After the suspension has finished adjusting to Highest, go to Settings > Vehicle > Service. Then turn on Tire Change mode.

For the jacking pucks:
There are four jacking points inboard of each wheel, each with a plastic circular cover over the point, held in place by two tabs. The covers need to be removed. You can try pressing down on the inner side of the cover, and then getting a finger under the other side, but you can also slip the tip of a flat blade or screwdriver under an edge and gently pry the cover off. In my experience, the latter is the much easier method but ymmv. Each cover has a strap so once removed, it will just dangle there. Insert your puck in the opening to jack the car up, first making sure that it is properly inserted and firmly seated.

I have Jack Pucks, which are magnetic and make a nice, secure connection to the frame when in the jacking point. Some other pucks use have o-rings on their pilot point to hold the puck in place, so it may be a bit more difficult to tell if they're properly seated.

I'm lucky. My local auto shop is very competent, and I've had good luck with them with my ICE vehicles over the years. I have great confidence in their work, and no hesitation bringing the Rivian to them for things like tire changes, PA safety inspection and the like. They loved having the Rivian in the shop and did their usual great job mounting & balancing new tires and installing the TPMS. I probably paid them a bit more for the tire work than I would have at Costco, but I view that as money well spent. Understand that this may not be the case for everyone.

go to Rivian unless you have a local shop you trust. all it takes is a little research and professionalism to do it right. you're not going to find either at Discount Tire (@Discount Tire).

here's my recent experience: https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/...g-discount-tire-watch-them-like-a-hawk.28845/
Yikes @dleewla that truly sucks and I'm sorry you now have damage and had a horrible experience. Thanks for saving me frustration and potential damage. I'm traveling and thought I was being proactive, but I'll wait until I'm home and take to a trusted garage.

@Yossarian this is super helpful and I REALLY appreciate the detail and time you took to help me out. This forum has been invaluable to educate and provide as a place to help one another. My husband isn't super handy and I've done a couple road trips from FL to NJ on my own, just with my dog, so am thankful for all info like this to combat the learning curve of owning an EV. Thank you so much!

I drove in to my local (pasadena) america's tire, which I think is same as the discount tire national chain. rotated for free, and patched a tire with a nail for free.

oh yea, I called ahead to confirm they had the pucks. person on the phone knew about rivians and knew exactly what I was asking about.

There are mobile tire services too. Some chain, some independent. Search Yelp. Just let them know ahead what they’d be up against (with the instructions from tow operator guide). Put it in tire change mode for them once they arrive. And if you have magnetic pucks, put those in for them. More you can control, less for things to go sideways.

I went to my local Discount tire and they had the proper pucks.
I also had a set as back up but I watched them do it and they
did it correctly. Don't discount Discount!
