I might get my NACS adapter sooner

Less Gen 2s cluttering up service centers

A chance to improve factory quality
You would hope with the reduced production that they spend the extra time on QC at the factory. If the cause is a miscommunication then I hope the person at Rivian who made the error was reprimanded.

I have an R1T on order and am waiting like others. But I drove by the factory in Normal about a month ago just to look and there were tons of R1’s in their lot. I couldn’t get close enough to see if they were T’s or S’s but there was a lot of them. So I don’t know what is going on.

It was with some curiosity and bemusement that I read the thread and watched the YouTube video commenting on the alleged 3,000 units of unsold R1 inventory. Supposedly, the trolls claim, Rivian has a demand problem, not a parts problem and therein lies the issue with Rivian lowering sales estimates.
Simple math… 13,000 units produced in Q3 and 10,000 deliveries. Unless Rivian accounts for unfinished units with missing parts as « produced »…

I agree with your sentiment. They may have some excess R1S inventory of common configurations in the 90-100k range but not a lot of R1Ts as you discuss.

I think your issue is your large pack configuration. I haven't seen many Gen 2 R1Ts with a large pack. With limited inventory they are better off selling it as a Max pack. At least until they have a real large pack that isn't a software limited max pack.

WHen was your delivery date?.

We were a May 2023 delivery date and I got the confirmation email about the NACS in July only to confirm my address. Then on Sept. 9th (I remember that date because it is my mom's birthday) I got the "we are shipping it now" email. It arrived on the 17th (which happens to be my late fathers birthday).

Just for context, my brother-in-law got his R1T in Sept, 2022 and he got his NACS adapter at the beginning of August. So, my calculations for me was a "Sept/October" time frame and I was accurate.

I think you will be getting yours soon.

It was only a light hearted complaint. At current rate it won’t be long for me (Nov 2308 NW 94th St delivery).

I think the Rivian shop is still location based from what I've seen in other posts for inventory when I check my locality. If you've been living on the islands for any length of time, you should understand the logistics issues for everything there. That is likely your issue and not the same for the 48. However you have a custom build that they don't seem to offer any more. Mahalo!

Totally hear you, I am and can be patient. My order was placed in June and while others seem to have been contacted by Rivian, I have heard crickets. So I reached out to Rivian last week and learned there is no VIn# or anything. Pretty clear they are not going to make October at this point. Obviously I should have just waited for a shop config instead of placing an order. I had mistakenly thought for Gen 2, that an order would get priority over unsold inventory. I just don’t understand their sales culture, or lack of it, - if someone called me and offered a car with 9 out the 10 things on my custom build, I would have taken it. I have a couple of friends with Rivians and they love them. I know I will love mine when it shows up, eventually.

Well, I was just poking around the store and suddenly three R1T TRI models just showed up in inventory. I jumped and put a deposit down. Now I need to get Rivian to move my deposit over to the new TRI. Status now says "purchase opens in 1-2 weeks".... Happy Day

Agreed. And it's frustrating to now see four green Tris in the shop so close to my config. But I can't switch out as they all have 22s and I ordered/only want the AT 20s.

Part of Rivian’s challenge is that there are just a lot of potential combinations of vehicle choice when you factor in drive-train/battery size/color/wheels, etc.

They can have a lot of inventory that doesn’t match what any individual buyer wants. Particularly when a lot of it is already local.

Rivian also seems to be building certain variations in batches, making some options very common and others less common for certain periods of time.

This is one of those things that Tesla did different. If you look at a Model Y, there’s a much smaller combination of options. They also use pricing to steer most customers to the blandest colors.

Rivian has to produce a vehicle before they can sell it. There's probably a few weeks minimum between those milestones, and they were still ramping up in Q2. 50k units a year still means more than 1000 per week after including the downtime for the retool in the calculation. I'd say they don't actually have a glut of inventory at all, it's the numbers being used by bad actors claiming it.
