Hello,

as my delivery date of R1S is approaching, I was getting the quote for heat rejection windshield film and one of them told me that the heat will fry the film and cause the damage to the sensor. Have you guys had any sensor issues after installing the 3M ceramic film?
Thank you!

I'm getting Exo Shield Installed on my truck next week. I'll let you know how that one goes.

Ceramic film for heat rejection goes on the interior of the windshield (just like any other window tint) and does not cover any sensors. As a result, there is zero chance for sensor interference or damage.

ExoShield is a chip protection film. Not a tint. And, it is applied to the exterior (hence, exo-shield?). Tint is typically applied to the interior. While ExoShield is advertised to block 99% UV (Ultra-violet), it is not advertised anywhere to have heat-rejection (Infra-red) properties.

As for the claim that tint can fry sensors... sounds fishy because if tint is sitting ahead of the cameras/sensors, it's blocking IR before it reaches the camera/sensor. It's not trapping heat in between. Pick a different tint shop.

Yeah I know its a chip protection film. Sorry hit the post button before I typed that I'm also getting tint installed upfront too.

That doesn’t sound right. Pick a new shop. I have Xpel XR plus on my windshield and haven’t had any issues.

This may not relate after reading all the comments I'm not sure if you're asking about the clear tint for heat protection or exterior chip protection BUT, I have had clear tint for heat reduction inside the windshield for 9 months, and have not had any issues, but, the visibility at night is not crystal clear on car's tail lights specifically, there's ever so slightly a refraction going on, it's hardly noticeable and I would bet 99% of owners would not even notice, so I'm not complaining, but making you aware it will not be as clear as glass at night with lights shining at you

Some people have also complained about waviness/distortion in daylight. I have not experienced either and the heat rejection is significant.

if it exists in the daylight it's imperceptible to me, and just ever so slightly visible under specific conditions at night.

And the reduction in heat is huge so it's worth it to me.

I have XR Plus on my windshield and have no issues. You may just see some distortion or a rainbow effect with polarized sunglasses but other than that I don’t see anything.

Typically tint is applied to the inside of the windows and around the rear view mirror. Most cameras are inside the mirror housing (you can see them) so the tint is a non-starter on affecting them. As others have said, choose another tint shop.
