Yes, my 2023 R1S needs a new windshield...I filed a claim with my insurer, Geico. One of the first things that Geico told me (via email) was that they pay for "like, kind and quality" on glass replacements and that if I choose to go with OEM windshields, I'd have to pay out of pocket for the difference. Well as other people have said on the forums here about windshield replacement, maybe going with non-OEM is the way to go here, given how many OEM windshields are cracking! So, I contacted Safelite, and very quickly got what I thought was a very reasonable quote - $910. But I just cannot get an answer out of them if they are able to do the necessary recalibration work. And from reading the forums here, it seems like for the most part..they can't quit yet. So, from there I contacted a Rivian-certified auto body center, and got a quote for $2,600 for OEM glass - and they said they probably wouldn't be able to do the calibration work. Wow! So my next step was to call Geico to get advice - they have a specific dedicated glass repair unit - and they strongly recommending going with specific auto glass repair companies rather than auto body/fender shops. I called a local windshield repair place and seemed to get a knowledgeable guy on the phone. He said he hadn't done a Rivian yet but that he'd be able to. I brought up the calibration issue, and he pulled up his calibration software, said that a 2023 Rivian R1S was in his software and that he'd easily be able to do the calibration. Then, he pulled up a database and was able to tell me that right now as of this morning there was ONE available windshield in a warehouse in Southern California (I'm in Northern California). The guy really seemed to know what he was talking about, so I think I'm going to get a quote from him - maybe for both OEM glass and non OEM-glass. Before I do that, though, has anyone had any very recent success - early/mid June 2024 - getting a windshield replaced with full calibration work at Safelite?
