Winter Tire and Wheel fiasco

I am trying to get snow tires for my wife's R1S, which currently as the stock 21 inch tires. I am thinking of getting the same rims and tires that you got from EVS. I assume you are happy with them?

I have always been confused by tires and rims. I am hoping some of you helpful people can help me out with a few questions.

I see that EVSportline offers a variety of 20 inch rims. Are the differences mostly cosmetic or are there other things to consider?

Also, when you go to the Nokian website they do not recommend any tires for Rivians, but I see that many people say that the Hakkapelita RV SUV winter tires work just fine. Is there anything I am missing?

We do have a wide variety of wheels designed and built specifically for Rivian fitment that are guaranteed to fit without rubbing and using only the hardware that came with your Rivian. The differences in our wheels do go beyond cosmetics. Differences include construction method and specialty uses/capabilities.

The Nokian Hakkapelitta is a great tire, and we carry them as part of our wheel and tire packages. That Tire Rack package is good for featuring them. One I didn't notice on that package was any kind of load rating info given for those MSW wheel--nor did I find that information on MSW's website. This is important to consider when changing wheels for any EV, given that our vehicles are a bit heavier than the similarly-sized gas truck/SUV.

Missed this thread, but for anyone interested in another option. All prices in CAD.

- MSW type 52 from tirerack shipped to Canada, around $2200 after customs and shipping
- BHSens Rivian TPMS sensors from amazon.ca, around $200, sensors were plug and play
- Michelin X-Ice SUV Snow 275/60/R20 from blackcircles.ca, was around $1200 after rebates and discounts. 115T which is slightly out of spec but I won’t be towing in winter. Exactly same final size as the 21 inch OEM so no need for recalibration.

local mount balance and install for around $150.

So less than $4k CAD all in and very happy with the performance so far this winter, in pretty icy and snowy weather.

Hello, for those that ordered the second set of wheels, which are available in Canada? Or are they all ordered thru the US distributor and are there significant duty and import fees associated with the order? I ordered some running board last year and the duty and import costs were crazy high from the broker with UPS. I want to get some winters put on but the tire shop I went to said their supplier doesn’t have any wheels that are rated strong enough for the weight of the Rivian (fountain tire in Burnaby)

With your proximity to the US border, you should consider shipping to WA and picking up/importing yourself. You'll likely have to pay tax + duty when crossing the border on the return, but at least you won't be ripped off by UPS and their extra fees. As a bonus, there's often free shipping within the US.

Better yet, drive across border, have wheels/tires installed on vehicle and drive back. Who would know goods were being exported/imported?

That‘s what I just did. Got R1000 20” wheels from EV Sportline and put the Nokian R5s on them. Replaces my 22s. So, this would be like an OEM set up.
