9/1/21 order here. Something went crazy with the system prior to the shop launch. So the same day - 5/18 rivian reached out to me. Unlike you I had a VIN that day and the truck was en route. I quickly paid and asked no questions. When I went to pick up the guy asked me my order date and he was perplexed. Anyway got the truck and still can’t believe it.

why can’t your guide give you a shop invite?
i had a similar experience, order date 8/30/21, then 6/11/22 i got email that my delivery was pushed to dec 2022. 6/13 I had guide contact to confirm my config. In discussion with my guide i switched to forest edge interior which he said was showing as green meaning available and looked good with forest green exterior. I was perplexed and thought well that was weird.

Then nothing for 3 weeks. Then my 8 steps opened and i had a vin. Then saw a random post here 7/2 that the kc service center had two forest green delivered with a white. Since i was there for the holiday weekend decided why not check it out, sure enough was my vin. i let my guide know i was in kc. 7/5 i was contacted by the service center it had arrived and would be ready 7/7 for pickup. They let me come by to see it and check out the colors they had since i hadn’t seen in person yet, also got a confused look when i told them the order date, super nice people. Was delivered today shrug.

if you follow various threads here, you can see the trends on what’s built but even then it’s just a guess as it seems the allocation is also region based. The communication doesn’t seem any worse than ford while i was waiting for my mach e and was definitely better than subaru when i ordered an outback a few years back.

I'm in the same boat as you. And with a year earlier preorder date.

Hasn't been a fun experience.
The weird thing is I ordered a month after you and have that exact config (well i do have the shield and spare) that I picked up in Normal in late May (which means they could have shipped it anywhere)

I ordered the same day as @tgo10000 and changed from OC to FE interior the week the OC delay was officially acknowledged. Besides the email in December that estimated a Q4 2022 delivery, I have heard nothing from Rivian. No guide, no June update email. All so curious.

This is especially curious given that you're in WA. I feel like out here in NC we're fighting to get the scraps or something. To be completely honest I would rather not have a guide at this point. With a guide there's the illusion that something is going to happen soon. Two months in with a guide and no VIN, it's just starting to annoy me they assigned me someone.

It's a terrible look for Rivian IMO, but mistakes happen and I understand they're in their growing pains phase. I just don't want anyone else to be in this situation.

I also am picking up from the factory.

Makes 0 sense.

I also have spare selected but no shield.

Just posting another “no update” update.
Today marks eight weeks exactly from my first call with my Guide and when I signed my PBA. No truck, VIN, or 8-steps yet.

Spoke with my guide on Monday and he basically told me “it really shouldn’t take more than a few weeks”. No real explanation given for the two month delay. One bit of info he shared is that my truck would likely be delivered out of the Richmond VA service center as opposed to coming out of Atlanta which is what he had previously said. Doesn’t really change anything or help me at all but figured I’d share it anyways.

My build is apparently incredibly common according to my guide, and I’ve been following the R1 Shop thread and have seen my exact config show up many times there. Feeling left in the dark here, like I fell through the cracks.

The wait continues.

I have the exact same configuration as you less some accessories. My order date was 7/2021. I had 20” wheels originally and switched to 21” in early June and got a guide on 6/22 and was told about 2-4 weeks for a VIN. After ~3 weeks went by with no update I asked for shop access and was told by my guide that they would ask their manager. I logged into my account yesterday and had shop access (no email) and it had my exact configuration so I snagged it and got a VIN and completed 6 of 8 steps yesterday just waiting on a delivery date before forking over my down payment. No idea of delivery date yet.

I agree with the idea that Rivian might be struggling with knowing what they built and who wants what. When I texted my usually slow to respond guide that I got shop access and my exact configuration was there, I got an immediate response of surprise that my exact configuration was in the shop and she told me to grab it. My conclusion was that the guides don’t have a good idea of what’s available.

I would recommend to ask for shop access if you have a guide and no VIN. It has so far moved my order along but who knows, it could still be 8 or more weeks until delivery, however I’m still very grateful to even be at this point since I’ve got a later pre-order date.

Your guide sounds a lot more accommodating than mine, I’ve asked my guide (politely) for shop access and he’s adamant that it’s an automatic thing and that if he could give me access he would. Given that I just chatted with him on Monday I might wait another week or two and then try again.

Really frustrated with this and am feeling let down. I wish I never got assigned a guide.

Just wanted to share an on-going experience in case there are others like me out there. I was contacted by a guide on 5/18, confirmed my configuration on the call and signed the PBA on the call. My guide seemed to think that I was in line to get a truck relatively quickly: "when things start moving, they move fast" is a line I remember him saying. He gave me an estimate of 4-8 weeks to delivery but told me he had seen it happen much quicker than that for his other customers. He also asked if I had any major vacation plans that might impact delivery, I told him I didn't, and have since avoided making any plans to get out and adventure this summer to give myself as much flexibility as possible. I like to be prepared, so I scrambled and started to look at financing, getting quotes to sell my current vehicle, and contacted a reputable electrician in the area to have as many ducks in a row as I could in the event it showed up much sooner than his estimate.

After the first two weeks I was pretty sure it was imminent, could happen any day. After the four week mark I started to accept that I was maybe an outlier but was still optimistic about getting it within the window he estimated for me. Coming up on eight weeks next week, with no VIN/8-steps, or internal vehicleId in my API responses on the profile page, I'm beginning to wonder if I was contacted prematurely/by mistake. As far as my guide and I can tell, I don't have truck in production yet. Just perpetually stuck in PENDING_FULFILLMENT.

Here's the interesting bits. I preordered 9/21. I originally placed a preorder for a Max Pack, Adventure, 20" AT, FG, BM build. On 5/13 I changed from Max Pack to Large pack, and was contacted five days later by my guide. As far as I can tell, there's no good reason why I was contacted given my relatively late preorder date and location (NC). Best guess I have is that someone had backed out of an order that matched with my config (or maybe near to it), but that order was snatched by someone else before my guide could get it to me. The R1 Shop email went out 6/6 and I think that this signaled an obvious change in strategy from Rivian in terms of who would be getting their trucks. After the R1 Shop debuted, I think my late preorder date got shuffled to the back of the line and earlier preorders are getting their rightful chance to grab trucks from the shop, even if those trucks match my exact config (which based on screenshots I've seen from the shop, seems to be the case).

I'm not really upset that earlier preorders are getting their trucks. IMO that's how it should've been from the start. I guess I'm just disappointed that I now have no idea what to expect timeline-wise, and have zero avenues for getting any clarity there. Since signing my PBA I changed my config per all of the trends I've seen online. I now have an Adventure, El Cap, BM, 21" configured and am patiently waiting as interest rates continue to rise (as does my down payment fund). I've heard Rivian shut down the factory this week for maintenance and the holiday, so I'm hoping next week brings me good news.

I guess the irony here is when I had my Max Pack reservation I got a 2H 2023 delivery estimate back when that initial email blast went out, and I was perfectly content to wait that long. After having a guide for almost two months and waking up every morning wondering if today was the day, I'm feeling a little burnt out on the excitement front. I just wish someone at Rivian could tell my guide what's going on so that he could better inform me of when I need to actually prepare for purchase.
I also changed from the Max Pack to the Large Pack in the beginning of May, and I was assigned a guide a few days later. I confirmed my configuration on May 16, and now its 9 weeks later and nothing. I feel your pain, but I believe this is part of their strategy of reducing the number of Max Pack orders so they can have an excuse to not produce the larger more expensive battery.

Honestly I think you may be right with this theory.

I called CS yesterday and apparently I don’t even have a delivery window (let alone one for this year) so I’m not expecting this truck to be delivered until next year at some point.

Thanks for sharing your story. I sympathize as I can’t imagine the burnt out feeling you feel compared to the rest of us. From reading, it sounds like the wait will be worth it.

It’s definitely the most bizarre experience I’ve ever had for making a purchase this large. I know they’re a new company and all so I can’t be too hard on them. Just really hope they get it right for other folks.
