Press Release:

XPEL Provides Rivian Customers New Program to Customize and Directly Order Suite of Protective Films and Coatings

Now Rivian customers can customize and directly order XPEL ULTIMATE PLUS or STEALTH PPF, a variety of PRIME window films and FUSION PLUS Ceramic Coating

San Antonio, TX – February 27, 2024
– Today XPEL, Inc., a global leader in protective films and coatings, and EV truck-maker, Rivian, announced an expansion of their collaboration which will allow Rivian R1T and R1S owners in the U.S. and Canada the opportunity to customize and directly order the XPEL exterior paint protection, window film and ceramic coating of their choice.

This new program offers set pricing, easy installation coordination and allows new and existing Rivian owners to select between a variety of protection options including partial or full coverage of XPEL’s ULTIMATE PLUS paint protection film (PPF), STEALTH PPF, a range of PRIME Window Films, and XPEL's FUSION PLUS Ceramic Coating.

"We are pleased to extend this unique program and further develop our collaboration with Rivian," stated Duane Gotro, Vice President of Services at XPEL. “Rivian owners can now customize their vehicle with XPEL protection suited to their lifestyle and then effortlessly schedule the installation with a Certified Rivian Network Partner at a fixed price.”

To ensure a seamless experience, XPEL has established a network of Certified Rivian Network Partners who will coordinate and handle the professional installation of these products, which customers can conveniently purchase through the Rivian Gear Shop.

Separately, Rivian and XPEL continue to offer a pre-installed STEALTH Pack on select R1 models, helping ensure the rugged vehicles not only stand out with a sleek, matte finish but also remain highly protected from scratches, rock chips, and road debris. The STEALTH Pack is currently available on select El Cap Granite and Midnight exteriors featuring Rivian’s Darkout trim and emblem package.

For best results, XPEL recommends Rivian owners have XPEL’s PPF, window film and ceramic coating installed on their vehicles as early as possible. An XPEL Certified Rivian Network Partner can also recommend additional services, not included in this program, for an additional cost when owners schedule their appointment.

For more information or to purchase, visit the Rivian Gear Shop or directly on XPEL.com (U.S. or Canada).

Unless they start allowing gear shop points to be used you are better off going directly to the certified installer.

My understanding is that in the past, the factory XPEL had more gaps than the certified installer XPEL. Is that still true?

My installer XPEL is stellar, by the way. Would totally do again.

What is the savings over direct to local dealer?

The first question to ask is whether they wrap the edges. I've had Xpel and I'd go with Stek or someone else at this point. It isn't a bad option, but there are definitely better.

Essentially what they talked about doing... what? more than two years ago. Nothing new, except now there is a dedicated microsite. Anyone could have gone to any XPEL authorized installer and gotten the same deal.

They do not. This is a plotter pattern. Your installer might choose to over cut by a certain amount for some or all of the pieces. But it's up to them to offer it at whatever up-charge. If you want edges to be wrapped everywhere, that means trim pieces have to come off (along with chances of breaking fasteners and clips). That means more time and labor. Expect cost to go up by 30-50%.

I am aware of the difference but many people aren't. I almost always spend the extra money as the exposed edges are easier to chip. While you can't always do it everywhere, but it sure helps were you can. My Tesla wasn't done with a plotter but totally bulk wrapped. It was worth the upcharge, and it wasn't that much more TBH.

My Rivian I had done with mostly plotter enlarged with wrapping edges were it made the most sense and also where it was very accessible.

I learned the hard way to not go with just a basic plotter install on a previous Model S I had. Not to mention if you have a lighter color, and the edge isn't wrapped, it is a dirt magnet.

Does this mean that tinting the roof is officially blessed by Rivian and we can be done with concerns that it might cause the glass to shatter?

No idea on warranty but realistic lifetime is roughly 5 years maybe less before it starts looking not so great if exposed to the elements all the time.

SoCal is typically $6.5k+

According to the website, it's a 5-year/60K mile comprehensive warranty on paint protection film and window film.
