I just bought the ski rooftop rack off the Rivian website, which I wasn’t sure if it had any specifically designed parts for a Rivian roof rack(since I still have a 4Runner). It’s just the normal Yakima FatCat Evo6, with no modifications or even Rivian branding (which I was a little bummed about!).

Just thought I’d post this in case someone had the same questions I did.

Other than it having the correct anchors to fit a Rivian (aka it is totally modified for a Rivian)? It's not like you can just buy the Rivian one and slap it onto your 4Runner, or visa versa, right?

I also recall seeing in the recent Sandy Munro video and others that the cover which you pull to unlock the anchors has a Rivian logo on it, so definitely branding on them, unless they're pulling a bait-and-switch.

The ski rack is different from the crossbars. The ski rack attaches to the Rivian branded cross bars but the ski attachment itself is just a Yakima. The gear shop page doesn't suggest any other branding.

It may (unclear) come with the T-slot inserts so you can slot it into the crossbar a little more elegantly, at the cost of being slightly more of hassle to add/remove. If not, you can buy those aftermarket. I have the exact same ski rack on my Model Y (with the t-slot adapters) and really like it.

pictures in the gear shop show it clamping on, not using t slots.

Yeah the Yakima FatCat comes with both clamps and t-slot fittings as standard. It does look like the rivian bars have a t-slot, but I haven’t seen any pictures utilizing it, has anyone else? I wonder if it’s really a t-slot or aesthetic/is there for the telescoping mechanism.

but yeah the Yakima clamps I ordered from rivian fit on my 4Runner just great, though I returned them since they weren’t great quality and I already have a few Thule things I like more.

When I bought them I could have sworn it said “developed by Yakima for Rivian” but that seems to have been removed. I remember the customer service person had quoted the same when I asked. But yeah, standard Yakima.

I must be missing something: these clamps just suck (yes -- no T-slot HW included) : first, the clamps are assembled backwards from the instructions - which may not matter even though one must place them the opposite direction on the rack. The problem is the entire belt assembly inside, which works great if the mount screw is completely loose ( not attached to the ski rack) -- doesn't work easily at all when even resting in the rack: it puts pressure on the spring latch, meant to hold the belt buckle firmly in place until one pushes down on the strap buckle. This makes it very hard to latch/unlatch without a small screwdriver/lever pushing it out of the way. I spent way more time fussing with those clamps than I would have screwing in a few T-slot screws.
