In case you didn't know, there are two types of spare tire kits. There the old one "2021 to Mid-2023" and the new one "Mid-2023 (and Later)". The Tire Service Guides lists the difference: https://rivian.com/support/article/r1-tire-service-guide. I knew this difference, which is why I had waited a bit before ordering (but I didn't want to wait too long to avoid getting a flat without a spare)

I had ordered my spare tire kit a few weeks back and a mobile service tech arrived today to deliver it. I assumed I'd be getting the newer kit but ended up getting the older one. When I asked the tech why, he didn't know. I called customer service, who then called the service center and they indicated they are delivering them with whatever they have in stock. Just keep this in mind if you ordered or thinking about ordering. If I had known, I would have waited even longer to order. Or I should have asked first if they have the newer kits.

I would have preferred getting the newer kit because it seems better. It comes with wheel chocks, which the older kit does not. And the jack puck is integrated directly into the jack instead of as a separate piece. To me that makes the whole setup more stable and safe.

I was meant to get my spare kit installed last week, but there was a recall on the jack contained in the kit that they had received. so myself and anyone that scheduled around that date onward is on a list until the replacement kits come in.

I think I have a real old version... because in the first version, it appears #3 is removable as a base for the jack. On mine, that block is not removeable.

Interesting. Got my spare back in August and it looks like the older one. Don't think it makes any material difference to the end user.

New or old, as long as it comes with a tire and jack, I'm good ;)

I don’t care about the kit, was never a fan of a scissor Jack so am building my own kit. I just need the compact spare to be available to finish the setup.

Same. My scissor jack on my old car (Subaru) bent and this time I went with a bottle jack version. Guess I'll give it a try when it's time to throw the winter tires on...

I called and ordered the spare tire on 8/26 with first available install date of 9/11. I received the new kit version (mid-2023 and later)

thats great you got the new kit. i suspect that my service center also has the new kits but they are trying to use up existing inventory of the old kits.

I believe the one I received a few weeks back was the old version.

Thanks! I was just providing time/date data point info for everyone. The tech that delivered it was surprised and said he had never seen it before. I myself didn’t even know there was an old vs new kit. Just happy to have the spare now.
