Confirmed: R2 reservation holders will be invited to configure orders in June

I have a hard time believing that skimming 100 cars out of the first-year yield of 20k would make a gnat's ass worth of difference to their bottom line. And it could generate a whole lot of interest from first-time EV buyers.

And no, I personally will not buy any car without a test drive and suspect that a relatively smaller segment of the R2 target market would buy, either, as opposed to early R1 buyers.

They don't need to have test drives to fill any pending orders that they can fulfill for the remainder of the year. I wouldn't expect any demo R2s until 2027.

There has been a lot of engagement and anticipation on the R2. Kyle from out of spec said yesterday that over 80% of his audience still wants the R2 over the iX3 and EX60 given they were just launched. Does anyone else think, we are going to get into the configurator and be disappointed? With this level of engagement, if I were Rivian, I would raise prices. Or have a base at every trim and you have to pay for everything else. I mean everything. It may explain why the configurator is opening so close to delivery days. Just a feeling I have

What had you thought they would be?

I originally thought Rivian might up charge for everything. I knew they would up charge for paint, wheels, and interior. I am a little surprised there is no premium audio add-on

I got my "R2 is ready for its close-up" config email at 08:30 am Seattle time Friday 15th! R1S owner, LE wanted, but my R2 reservation dated March 12 2026 so pleasantly surprised to be receiving this so early.

As configured my R2 LE will be $61,215 (CC paint, AT tires, mats).

It'll be interesting to see when I can place the order...

Exciting, but the $2K paint is a bummer. Gonna see a lot of silver R2s.

Some are $1,500. Forest green and half moon grey.

They're also going to be really upset when Rivian only tells people in June when they are going to let them into the configurator.

Everyone got that email who had made a reservation. It doesn’t mean you are near the front of the line unfortunately.

OK, configuration in June, so what does that mean for test drives? I would think test drives would be available before configurations. 2 weeks left in May, but no test drives announced yet.
