Hopefully the R2 is compatible with the R1 spare, I'd just probably swap the spare to an R2 if I decide to get it in the future. I'm still holding out for the R3!!!
I'm pretty sure that R1 wheels will not fit on the R2.

R1 bolt pattern 5x127 mm, R2 is 5x114.3 mm

I'm fairly sure these are spares that have to be inflated, like the one for the R1S. It would be ridiculous for Rivian to not include a method of inflating them. They don't mention an inflator, but it does say this:

It says vredestein like the r1s one

And, like everything in the gear shop, shipping is included. I work for a transportation company and shipping something of that size and weight is not cheap.

Yes that price is a bit expensive. I found a company who specializes in making Spare tire kits. It looks like you can get it for about half that price. I priced a Tesla model Y spare tire sense it has the same bolt pattern and nearly identical backspacing. The only issue would be the tire diameter and weather it is close enough to the tire diameter of the vehicle tires to fit with Rivians tire diameter specifications. The site says you can contact them to see if they can make a spare tire for your vehicle if it is not on the list of vehicles, and Rivian is not on the list.

doesn't everyone just have their staff follow them in support vehicles?

The spare in the R1 came with installation, they removed a piece of trim, added the mounting bracket, put in a new piece of trim, it also included the jack and tools to change the tire.

Did not seem excessive to me, was not just the tire. I assume the R2 is the same.

Y'all want Rivian to stay in business right? Well that necessitates making a profit on goods sold, the spare tire is no exception.

And, it's not "just" the spare tire...

Honestly, while it seems somewhat expensive compared to JUST a tire, for a competent spare including tire, rim of some decent capability and possible spanner, jack (most likely not compressor) PLUS the peace of mind actually HAVING A wheel/tire that one can replace a flat anywhere, from offroad, far from service stations, hours away from a AAA being able to come and TOW (most likely not swap with a spare tire). That’s worth AT LEAST half of the upfront $775 cost IMHO.

Question is for comparisons, would a tire fix it kit (filler and compressor, assuming the R2 does NOT come with built in compressor like the R1T and R1S) even work on the Pirellis that come with the 21” rims? Just to get back to base or back to a service station where a plug or other or new tire could be sourced

Add to that, with the LE 21” and the Pirellis that come with it, there are NOT many replacement tires for that rim size, so being on a road trip and away from a town where even an overnight ship from Tire Rack or other online dealership could even get a replacement shipped to, having a clear capable solution is of very high value.

This is what I do:
Just buy a used one off Facebook MarketPlace, Craigslist etc for $100-300 and carry on long trips. Otherwise a plug kit works just fine. My 2 cents 😉

What on earth makes a spare tire cost $775?
1778860596166-1u.webp
This is a tire that drinks when it is deflated in order to fit in use sub cargo area of the R1S. It comes with a wheel, a scissors jack that will lift a 7,000+ pound car, a couple of wheels shocks, and mounting hardware to secure it in cargo space. The price includes installation by the service center. in my opinion, all the accessorirl4s that Rivian sells are overpriced. They are, however above average in style, design, and construction. No junk here. The installation only takes about 15 minutes, about $30. You can get a similar jack for about $25., the other stuff $15. That leaves $705 for the tire and wleel assembly. The tire has to be about the same size as the regular tires or there will be serious handling l problems. It also needs to support an awful amount of weight. I think that the compact spare assembly is probably harder to make than a regular tire. Still its seems expensive. Does anyone know of a less costly equivalent solution?

Pricey and that’s why it is optional, people who want one pay for it. Otherwise good luck with a can of fix-a-flat and your AAA card. Let’s just be happy Rivian even offers a spare tire option.

I know a lot of people like that...they drink when they are deflated...girl rejects them at a bar and 'pour me another one, Sam'

Price is high, but high oil prices & tariffs are part of the story. But don't expect prices to go down when those situations resolve themselves. Remember tariffs don't just increase prices on imported items. Some domestic producer is being protected and they raise prices to the import plus tariff price. Look at steel as an example.
Don’t you get a jack with it?
