Volvo is taking mostly the right notes from Tesla.

For me to consider something a good EV (which is different from a good CAR), it needs a frunk (shows attempt at packaging more consciously), no start stop button (I get that it was used to keep familiarity for ICE drivers but take the training wheels off, you aren't starting anything) and good PAAK/App integration (I will die on the hill that keys are yesteryears technology). Volvo then took this a step further and brought in things missing from Tesla in the luxury department while beating them in charging speeds and eventually range.

This is an easy sell IMO you like the Tesla experience? You have more money and want something nicer? I don't see how you aren't picking this over the Model Y if so unless FSD is at the top of importance. And this is coming from a Model Y owner. I'm going to have a hard time ignoring the P12 once it comes out.

Well done, Volvo. Excited to see more of this.

Not going to buy an EV Volvo until they fix the route planning, but they make nice cars.

What do you think the need to fix? I assume you are talking about the AA/Google system used in EVs and not the older PHEV crap (when driving a Polestar 1 I find the nav system useless).
In my Polestars (2&3) I find it easier to use than Tesla/Rivian, but it is what I'm most used to. BMWs are weird, Toyota/Subie/Lexus are useless. I always Turo EVs when traveling so usually get days with a car and not just a quick spin.

That being said, I admit for longer trips with multiple charging stops I use ABRP and Plugshare, but also looking at campgrounds/hotels at the same time, I get a framework established then rely on the in car system during the trip.

Most likely candidates for my next EV are R2, EX60, iX3, Polestar 4 estate. First hour reservation on the R2 and previous R1 owner, but not sure I'll pull the trigger on the LE - primarily due to lease end timing. Configuration of Borealis (not sure my wife is on board) or Forest Green with the Coastal Cloud interior does likely buy some time. Have to drive them all to complete the pro/con list

Yes, referring to the Google integration for longer trips, there is no way to filter for specific charger brands (even when you do actually filter for them), for instance it won’t choose Tesla chargers even when it’s preferred because it believes they are all incompatible even with the adapter. The system auto selects other chargers and it’s near impossible to force it to change. I’m very proficient at road tripping in EVs and I gave up/got frustrated trying to help my mom plan a trip from FL to DC. Absolute disaster that does nothing to help new EV owners imo.

900v architecture is about the only thing I see compelling

I have no problem getting it to select and route to Tesla chargers (as long as having the adapter is checked). I've done this successfully in the Polestar 2, 3 and 4.
Where I have traveled, Superchargers tend to be among the most expensive options so don't try to filter specifically for them - more concerned with filtering for the fastest options.

I don't know how long ago you tried to route plan, but OTA updates to Google bring incremental improvements.

Try the Toyota Subaru nav system if you want to see a disaster. Using Google to navigate is very easy for new EV owners.

Well she just got home about an hour ago, so I would say the experience is very recent. A quick scan on Reddit indicates that her experience isn’t singular. The route planner doesn’t let you fine tune stops. If you’re good with charging at Blink/Chargepoint vs Tesla, it’s probably okay.

there are other issues like the interior B-pillar trim coming off, the frunk requiring a slam to close and lots of issues requiring trips to the dealer as well. 2025 EX90.

She has sworn off EVs because of the experience and this was her first one
