Submitting my taxes soon... anyone get the credit on the first try? rejects? Appeal/dispute?
Sponsored
Unfortunately, my tax filing was rejected multiple times and each time it was due to this credit. I've filed a protest, but have no idea what the current status is. There doesn't seem to be a way to see what the status of a protest is. I still received ~$400 back from the state, so I'm grateful that I don't owe a bunch of money and sit here hoping I get some of it back.Submitting my taxes soon... anyone get the credit on the first try? rejects? Same thing happened to me with the same reason for adjustment. I protested online, resent same information I provided initially, and added a picture of the door jam tag. It was approved. My 2025 DR 0617 was rejected. I filed it the same way @matt21484 did (see post). The reason for adjustment:
The credit has been disallowed. The Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) was not in the allowable range for the vehicle type selected. If you disagree, please provide all necessary documentation (purchase or lease agreement, Colorado motor vehicle registration, and window sticker) for the qualifying vehicle along with a copy of this letter. For additional information see Income Tax Topics: Innovative Motor Vehicle Credit .
I can't figure out what's wrong. I think the vehicle type could be either Light-Duty Passenger Motor Vehicle (what I picked) or Light-Duty Electric Truck. Both have GVWR ranges that are valid for the R1T.
I guess I'll start the protest process Monday. Any suggestions or tips?
EDIT: I have my protest written up, including a photo of the door jamb sticker showing the GVWR and highlighted sections of DR 0167 showing the applicable Category 7 ratings.
C.R.S. 39-22-516.8(1)(x) says a “Light-duty electric truck ... does not include a light-duty passenger motor vehicle", then C.R.S. 39-22-516.8(1)(y) says a "Light-duty passenger motor vehicle means a private passenger motor vehicle ... capable of seating twelve passengers or less;  except [stuff irrelevant to Rivians]."
R1S and R1T can both fit in that last definition, the key word being private, i.e. non-commercial.

Maybe a Rivian licensed for commercial/business use could get ... the credit for "Light Duty Electric Trucks (8,500 – 10,000 lbs. GVWR)"
