Garage fit for R2 (vs R1S) - Height & Width Dimensions. Does it fit in your garage?

Programmable opening height is a pretty premium feature.. I doubt its going to be on the R2.

That said. At 6’4”, don’t think it wasn’t the first (ok 2nd) thing I checked with our 2 minutes with the car. And it’s JUST barely enough not to hit my head when it’s open, which is my standard test for SUV’s..

My 2018 Honda Odyssey has this feature, so I wouldn't call it "premium"

Also at 6'5 this means I'm definitely going to smack my head on the tailgate when it's open

I'd love to know the length of the R2 at its absolute longest, when the rear gate is raising and lowering. That's gonna be a factor in how far you need to pull into the garage, or even if some people will be able to open the gate when they're parked inside.

R2 is 67" tall, that's 15" of clearance for a garage opening of 82". 7 feet or 84" is the standard garage opening btw.

Premium? Our Model 3 and Model Y have it; and they’re pretty far from premium.

I asked about the height adjustment at the block party and the Rivian rep said it can be set to a specific height. Take that with a grain of salt because I didn’t watch them do it but my wife is 5’ nothing so she would like this feature.

Sometimes there is a piston brake but with electronic controlled at least not sure. We should have some great reviews in ~ 100 hours or less

I measured the trunk lid height at the San Francisco R2 event today - it's challenging to get it 100% correct since it curves up a bit at the light bar in the middle, but I estimated 84.5" to 85" for the max height. That is why they couldn't open the trunk inside of their "test" garage in the video.

I also confirmed from 3 different Rivian employees that you can not set the trunk lid height. If you want it to stop lower than it's full opening height, you have to manually push the button as it's going up or use the key fob. They said it's been brought up a few times, but they have no indication that this is being worked on for any future builds. It just doesn't come up enough to matter I guess (unless you live in the city and/or have a tiny garage like me)

That's unfortunate that there isn't a height adjustment capability... Our '17 Subaru Forester has that ability, so I wouldn't think it'd add too much tech/cost since that's already almost 10yrs old...
I guess that's one way to get people to use the frunk space more often... since we won't be able to use the rear hatch in the garage. Although the rear window goes down, so that'll probably be how we get around that.

Any report if you can retract/collapse the mirrors while in motion? My garage opening is slightly narrow and I would want to be on the safer side (I clipped the driver's mirror on my current car backing out).

yeah, I was hoping for the frunk to be easy to use as well, but I have to say it's been a bit janky on the demo builds I tried at the Palo Alto and San Francisco block parties. Sometimes it opens when I push the button on the front, sometimes it doesn't. When it does open, it's a weirdly slow process of hearing it mechanically unlatch and then eventually it starts to slowly open from the struts. It does not go super high, I think around 73" is what I measured, but I didn't write it down since it wasn't a concern. It was easy enough for my 5'4" wife to grab and pull down, so that was good.

They told me those are all pre-production vehicles that are being handled by a ton of excited future owners, so I'm expecting once the real R2s come in for test drives that they will be much more solid.

Is it why the Fell St was closed at Gough st?
- I was wondering if there was some road work or a fair, something common in this area.

Note: I attended the previous San Francisco R1S party, but Fell St was not closed,
and only the Linden St connecting to the Lux Fit plaza was close to traffic.
