Hi all,

I've come across multiple 2023 R1S Quads with mileage under 1k listed on Rivian's Pre-owned site. Any idea why the mileage would be so low on these? They are around 2-3k more than similar builds with 20-30k miles.

You could call and ask, possibly they were used for demo drives or just left over stock. Carfax has this on the one I looked at.

I've be cautious of buying any former Rivian loaner. They seem to charge them all to 100% and that's not good for the battery long term. While there's less than 1,000mi, if its a 2023 its spent a fair bit of time just sitting, and if at 100% that's not good.

I purchased my 2023 Quad (Limestone, AT20 dark, underbody shield) from CarMax in Oct 2024 for $73K. It only had 350 miles on it and most of the warranty too. Not sure why it was returned as it’s been flawless. I can only guess the original owner broke the lease somehow and returned it. It wasn’t a demo or corporate vehicle as I know who the original was (their Spotify account and Gear Guard videos were still active when I received the vehicle .) History shows no repairs or accidents.

CarMax seemed to have a lot of these super low mileage Rivians at the time, but that seems to no longer be the case.

While not ideal to keep the batt at 100% (this may or may not be the case all the time), on relatively young vehicles, I would doubt much if any degradation would occur. If it's a concern for the OP or anyone considering a used Rivian, one could make a battery SOH report a condition of the sale.
I once purchased a used BMW i3 REX and when I picked it up, the battery was at 5%. Just saying, not all dealerships are diligent about charging.
My 2¢ worth.

An EV company should know better than a legacy ICE company and Rivian doesn’t negotiate on sales like that.

Meh. I’ve charged my 2022 R1T to 100% nearly every day for over 3 1/2 years. I have lost only 5 miles of range during that entire time.

The demo vehicles should come with a warranty as if new, if you buy direct from Rivian. Soooo, unless you plan on keeping the vehicle long term, your warranty will be covering the HV battery for a long time. The loss of range over time is a lot of hype and has been shown to be a lot less than projections. The only thing to keep in mind is that Rivian won't typically do any "cosmetic" repairs to the vehicle, so if there are scratches, or damaged trim, Rivian isn't going to fix/replace the damage.

They had a program back then that you could return the vehicle with 1,000 or fewer miles within 30 days of purchase for any reason if you didn’t want the vehicle. They have since discontinued the program.

How do you know that they tend to charge to 100%.

I think they have a 7 day return policy on used ones. Not sure of the actual details though.

Numerous loaners over several years all having their charge limit set to 100%
They do that when being loaned out because many customers don't live close to the SC and might be driving several hundred miles home. In 2024 I bought a 2022 T from Rivian that had 158 miles. Was a great vehicle and qualified as "new" for warranty. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another just like it.

unfortunately it doesn’t look like they qualify as new. This one’s warranty started in Sept. 2023
