Now that we are a two Rivian household (both Gen 1), I have been looking into the Comma. We would mostly be using it for longer trips, so I would just move it back and forth between vehicles. With this new kit, that makes the "hub" and USB-C extenesion cable from the Janka mount unneccessary, correct?

If that is the case, by my count I would need:

1x Comma 4
2x Lukas Extreme Dev Kit
1x Device side Janka Mount
2x Vehicle side Janka mounts
2x 8 degree adapters

yes, the hub is no longer necessary. You just run one cable up to the comma.

Your list looks accurate!

I thought the 8 degree adapters were no longer necessary? Did I miss something 👀
They are not *strictly* required, but we've found that using them does help performance around corners and such. The way I figure it, better to have it than not.

I would like to join the comma fray. We have a Gen 1 (obviously), and I commute on an (mostly) unmapped highway followed by local roads daily. I am not really planning on doing much "self driving" per se, since lane centering on unmapped roads would be my biggest win, and I mostly do not have issues with Rivian's cruise control. One big challenge is the highway I drive on (The Taconic for those in the Hudson Valley) is notorious for bad drainage grates and I constantly swirve to avoid, and co-op driving seems to be a key feature.

My question: is the Lukas extreme dev harness necessary for me? Reading other's experiences about co-op with the angle-based harness seems to have some concerns.

If just hands free needed and not more of fsd experience. The base comma is what I use, great co-op driving experience for me. Over 10k of stress free driving in R1T and S. However, many often will just want a little more no matter what it is. If you are like that fully invest up front so only do install once.

Since two USB cables are no longer needed, will the magnetic mount now run everything needed for the extreme dev kit? Previously only the non magnetic cross glide mount would work correct? @gerrylum, I’ve seen both in your channel, which do you prefer?

My experience with angle-based is already posted in a different thread so you can read that, but I will say that if you decide on the angle-based and don't like it, you can fall back and use torque based with the same kit (like I did).

On the angle-based you have to use a fork developed by Lukas. To go back to torque based, you just have to install a different sunnypilot fork (I strongly recommend AdventurePilot - which is tuned to Rivians) and there is an option to force torque based.

I'll leave it up to you to determine whether it's worth the additional cost given you may never need/use/or want the angle - but if you are worried about FOMO more than price - this may be a good option.

Full disclosure, I have no affiliation with Lukas or @gerrylum or @LivingInKaos other than being a comma enthusiast.

I've had magnetic and non-magnetic, honestly I don't really see much of a difference between the two. You'll be happy either way, I'd imagine. But yes, now the mount will be all that you need - the hub box is no longer necessary since we're back to one cable.

Just FYI, you'll be able to use Adventurepilot with angle-based soon, too.

Good news, as long as you can select which steering type to use.
Yes, that would be a cool feature that I hope they're working on!

One more question - we are a one car household. I know that you always hear about the bad experiences, but I'm concerned about the chances of me screwing up the install and turtling the car at the most inopportune times. Am I being overly paranoid?
