Also wondering why some of the vehicles had their hazards on? Maybe that’s an indication that the need some sort of rework?
Let’s be positive. May be they are the one’s that passed the inspection, ready to go to the big lot for shipping.

Maybe someone who has worked at a car plant can weigh in, but I’m pretty sure this is a standard procedure for when employees are moving vehicles from final assembly to the staging area. I seem to recall seeing this elsewhere.

Also, many of the service/delivery centers are just now coming on line. I’m betting a lot of those trucks are folks in the March/April delivery timeframe.

People are right it looks close to a thousand vehicles. Since that is many weeks production why are so many awaiting delivery? I assumed that deliveries from Normal would be occurring regularly so not too many are stored on site.
Could be waiting on minor (or major) parts from a supplier, that may be installed easily on site. Ford/GM/Ram have been doing this for the last couple years, while waiting on their chips. This way they don't have to stop the assembly line.

Expect a take down notice from Rivian in 3-2-!!!!!
Exactly. I'm surprised this isn't down yet - I doubt this drone pilot had permission to fly over this private property. During the hover over the guard shack I was waiting for a sniper, or at least a phone video...

I spent way too long looking for additional R1Ss, but all I saw was two as someone posted previously.

From 1703_privateairspace.pdf (namic.org)
"The FAA takes the position that a UAS flying in your yard or over your private or business property is considered to be in navigable airspace. https://www.faa.gov/uas/faqs/ Navigable airspace is from the ground up. Anyone flying a UAS in compliance with FAA rules is permitted to fly in all such navigable airspace. It is a federal offense to interfere with the operation of an aircraft, so private property owners and business owners are prohibited from interfering with or preventing the operations of a UAS in navigable airspace even if that space is private property."

Edit: After looking at the FAA map, the airspace above the plant is Class D which does require FAA and air traffic authorization.

Doesn’t mean the video needs to come down once it’s posted, though. Mods may choose to take it down to be nice or build a relationship with Rivian but they’d be legally in the clear to leave it up unless the copyright owner requests a takedown.

However, it is up on YouTube, and it is extremely unlikely they would take it down. No reason, legal or otherwise, that they would need to.

Proprietary trade secrets. You Tube would take it down in a heartbeat if asked. Makes me think that Rivian sanctioned or at the very least turned a blind eye. I have drove around looking for a suitable launch site for a drone flight. It wouldn’t have been that apparent path.

No they wouldn’t. This isn’t a trade secret anyways, and YouTube has no obligation to protect others’ trade secrets (which would no longer be confidential if there’s a public video with thousands of views) and it doesn’t take content down for that reason.

My guess is those vehicles are receiving OTA updates to bring them current.

No matter how you want to interpret this, that many R1s sitting in the parking lot is fantastic news. Sure, I wish they were on trucks, but this is incredibly positive in my mind. Between this and the recent uptick in contacts for the March/April deliveries, I'm feeling more optimistic that my May/June window may actually be accurate!

Given that summer in Seattle doesn't start until July 4th, that'll be perfect for me :D

That's a hard claim to make if you're leaving it outside and uncovered. Private satellite imagery has taken care of that. Lots of great learning to do from looking at military bases.

In more general terms. I wonder if they're sitting in the parking lot waiting for the software update RJ mentioned in the recent interview, and then they will start shipping more of them out to third party customers.
