^ amazing how quickly they went from concept to actually producing a vehicle! It just shows that it doesn't have to take years to bring a new product to market if you Keep it Simple. I think they discovered the secret :)

I assume destination on top so $26.5k or close to it. Still aggressive.

The secret is massive money backing from a multi-billionaire.

yup. It’s a lot easier to bring a product to market when your funding is already secured.

For counter point - see Aptera. They've been "production ready" for years, just lacking the funding to actually start full series production.

Autopian video discussing it.

P.S. When is the Slate supposed to go on sale?
They are asking for additional deposits on the 24th. Deliveries have been stated as late this year, so probably late November early December?

Big question is the battery size / range for the $25k.

I thought there were two options:

“The Slate Truck offers an estimated range of 150 miles with its standard 52.7 kWh battery and up to 240 miles with the optional 84.3 kWh battery.”

Yeah, supposedly. The R1 was announced to have a 180 degree tailgate too. Who knows - they might have bailed on one (or both) the batteries when the rebate went out the window. Suddenly they could source it from anywhere.

That's the thing that I feel everyone is missing here. That US sourcing battery requirement is completely out the window now. They can get it from anywhere, and just have to deal with the regular costs for it. My guess is THAT is where the price difference is mainly coming from. They may just choose to split the difference in size or go with a completely different chemistry.

I'd just roll with one option for now for super simplification. My understanding is that the only mandated option which is not user changeable is the battery. If there was just one, it would probably be a win for everyone.
