Looking at the lease rates and using Travis’s calculator, these numbers are not adding up.
list reasons why you might cancel.

Why not wait? These will likely go down and will probably look better on the premium. However, I would not expect anything with a semblance of a deal for the R2 for at least another year (or two).

Not sure what you expected - Rivian was never going to subsidize below-market lease rates for the R2, because they will be able to sell all of their limited 2026 production even if the reservation conversion rate is low (which I don't think it is or will be). Plus, in these early days, making a sale and getting all that cash up front is far more important than having long-term recurring revenue from leasing.

The R2's being sold today are for those willing to pay the highest price.

They'll be opening up lower priced options in the near future. They'll start offering more traditional incentives as the supply/demand balance evens out.

It all depends on how much you value getting a vehicle right now versus a better deal later.

I have a reservation and I got the email to order this morning.

I have an R1S and I don't want to downsize at the moment. The size is perfect for us, slightly faster, and more capable off road (most likely).

Not going to get an R2 I decided (could give my wife's 2024 Hyundai Kona, previous company car) to my mom and get the R2 but we don't want two EVs.

Was waiting for the Scout to replace my R1 if it ever comes out.

Had two R2's reserved. Cancelled both. My T is just too good, so thats one down. The other Ill wait for LiDar. No rush to get an early VIN, thats a time suck waiting to happen. Ill keep my T until Scout is released. Then get the Gen 2 R2.

If you look at the current PLE model it is 100% in alignment with the model Y P. Don't expect Rivian's price on other models to differ from what tesla is offering.
Bingo. Model Y Performance is $57,990, same as R2 Performance, and the cheapest Tesla lease rate is $889 a month with $0 down (36/10k). Not including whatever fees and taxes to add on to that monthly rate.

It is abundantly clear Rivian pricing is matching Tesla everywhere they can.

I'll get a RIvian a year from now. I still have my reservation. But I am in no rush since my Honda Prologue lease ends a year from now. I also will wait for the R2's that have the gen 3 tech chips and Lidar in them. I also do not want to be the guinea pig R2 owners that will have experience problems on the first wave of batches going out right now.

Leasing to me I will not do again on any EV car after my great lease I had on the 2024 Prologue I have now. It does not work for me with amount of work and personal driving I do

Buy it with cash then you can sell it whenever you want. That way you are not paying interest to anyone (admittedly you forgo interest, less tax, on $60k) and you have the car you want.

I know someone will say ..."yes but you take all the depreciation hit" ... you don't really, that's kind of what the interest cost is and remember you'll have some equity when it comes to sell.
