With the iX3 getting an EPA range up to 434 miles on a 112 kWh battery, I'm betting the new iX5 will be pushing 500 miles of EPA range with it's battery comparable to Rivian's Max Pack. The early prototype drive reviews are out, and they're positive...we'll see!

BMW is going big with the new iX5 due out soon. Very big. The electric SUV will pack 144 kilowatt-hours of usable battery capacity for the U.S. market and 141 kWh for Europe, the automaker said Monday. That means the iX5 xDrive 60 will boast the largest battery ever installed in an electric BMW.

The single fully-electric EV trim available in the US is the highest X5 trim; six figure minimum almost guaranteed. The ICE/mhev will maybe start at 80.

Range beast, zero off-road capability. There are many EV SUV options, but very few that will take you off the beaten path.

The headliner here is range, not necessarily "another EV" SUV. Not many options of EVs with potentially 500 miles of range. That is noteworthy.

Also a charging beast, if it’s anything like the iX3…at least compared to the Rivian.

iX5 will start at 10k more than the base on the iX3 50. It will start at $70k and optioned correctly $85k.

As I said, there are many options. Why get a Rivian if all you want is a pavement queen?
Not all Rivians are great off-road. The R2 was pretty mid in the testing I've seen (e.g. Autopian). It has decent ground clearance, sure, but meh suspension travel and not great traction management, relative to any real "adventure" or "off-road" vehicle. Pretty similar to other "Adventure" CUVs like the upcoming Jeep Cherokee. More marketing than any purpose-built hardware or capability.
