I'm mostly upset that the R1S is only available in a 7-seat configuration now. I don't need 7 seats. I'd much prefer extra cargo space.

I have a sawzall you can borrow. You can even charge the batteries with the 110v outlets in the cargo area!

Completely agree on refraining from personal insults at RJ or even Rivian. However I will disagree on malice and/or incompetence. They are the manufacturer and communicated to reservation holders (consistently poorly) setting expectations. Decisions were made by reservation holders based on that information. Those reservation holders are now left holding the bag with a 15%+ price increase. That is negligence if not malice or incompetence.

For any reservation holder who had the option of selecting a Launch Edition and opted to wait longer based on the expectations set by Rivian who now cannot even remotely configure a similar vehicle within $15-20k price difference is not the fault of the consumer. For anyone who said they would forego a Launch Edition or even large pack truck and stomach paying the $10k for a max pack at a $10k premium to now be handed a 60% price hike AND have their standard quad motor removed with absolutely no recourse is borderline criminal.

I have waited patiently since 2019. I could have configured a Launch Edition on day 1. It was still available as an option when I logged in. I chose to wait for a max pack because Texas is a massive place with little to no charging network. I never got an option to change to a large pack like some others did. My configuration went up $20k overnight. I have no recourse. I can't even change to a large pack now without paying for the quad motor, large battery, and tonneau cover. Even if I were to settle for a large pack truck today it would cost me an extra $6k over what it did yesterday and considerably more than it would have originally had I not been mislead. This is not a "moving forward" price change. For that reason, this is mismanagement to a decree that, yes, absolutely warrants the label of malice or incompetence.

I converted my Lucid Air Grand Touring reservation to an order today. Was on the fence about the decision to move ahead with the Lucid as it's a fair bit more, but this news today certainly helped. I don't need the off road capabilities of the Rivian so it wasn't a factor in my decision.

Got it. Day one R1S pre order in Los Angeles. No Guide, no email except saying prices are going to increase. Bummer. Unbelievable actually.

Honestly, I've been thinking about it for a while as my last hurrah in an ICE vehicle. This was it for me and I'm not even going to consider a BEV for the next 5 years.

To be honest with you, ICE was my first thought after this. It seems like all EV truck pricing and timing is designed to get you to buy ICE. I am leaning Ridgeline.
