R1T & R1S Updated Pricing, Configuration, Specs. Dual Motor Now Available

Well, I still don't want a Model X, which is still more expensive. And if I spec out a Defender 110, a gas vehicle, I end up around the same price.

Pissed but what can I do? I did very politely tell CS that it was crap to have lied to us about starting deliveries for 6 months, then pull this only after they started customer deliveries for real, which means employees got the benefit of lower pricing, earlier deliveries, and a subsidy on top of that.

Maybe they'll throw a water bottle in for us LE reservations as a thanks/sorry? Can't expect much change, but who knows with them?

Rather than a Tesla move whereby they would pick a date..."price will increase on all orders placed after X"...Rivian has factored in the loss of pissed off early res holders here. They are saying we can afford to lose a percentage of early supporters but those that stay will pay more. There is no reversing this.

I wish I had your confidence. I'm not a day 1 order, but I have been waiting for over 3 years, and all CS could do for me was confirm that the price increase impacts me too.

This is the frustrating part for me. I am happy for those that have had the opportunity to start the contracting process and lock in the price. I really am. But it is quite annoying for those of us that pre-ordered over 3 years ago, and for whatever reason weren't part of this early delivery group, and are now going to have to pay $12k-$15k more. My window is also March/April, but I apparently will be paying 20% more for the benefit of getting it a couple weeks after some other folks.

The entire thing just feels so random, which seems to be a common theme for Rivian. If they came out and said "all 2018 pre-orders will be locked in", I would be disappointed (I was Feb 2019) but at least understand the cutoff (we want to take care of the earliest supporters). But it doesn't seem like that much thought was put into this. Just a gut punch right now.

Completely agree, and totally understandable. They really should have honored all existing pre-orders, and raised pricing on new ones. Ridiculous.

As our production continues to ramp up, we want to share new information that affects your Rivian preorder. 

Vehicle base pricing and the cost of certain options, upgrades and accessories have increased. All packages of the R1S will now only be offered in a 7-seat configuration.

We’re in the process of updating your Rivian Account page to reflect these adjustments and we will send you an email notification when the update is complete. Until then, all product and pricing updates can be viewed in our configurator.

These price increases — the result of inflationary pressure on the cost of supplier components and raw materials across the world — will allow us to maintain product excellence as we continue investing in electrification for our shared future. We remain committed to offering compelling products and helping drive competition, inspiring as many drivers as possible to switch to electric vehicles.

To that end, today we’re also announcing the introduction of Rivian Dual-Motor AWD for both R1T and R1S. Dual-Motor AWD features one motor for each axle for exceptional power and control. The system is designed to excel both off-road and on-road, going from 0-60 mph in as few as 4.0 seconds while still delivering all-wheel traction. Deliveries are planned to begin in 2024. We are also introducing our 260+ mile range Standard battery pack, with deliveries planned to begin in 2024.* Dual-Motor AWD and Standard battery pack are available now in our configurator, where you can find more information on each.

Inflation is not 20%. Inflation should and would have been factored into the estimates we were presented with all this time.

I'll probably end up cancelling one of my two orders. Hopefully that will add to the total # of cancellations and have them reflect on what they've done and only make the pricing take affect for future orders or prorate it based upon order date (unlikely though).

In the up coming earnings call on March 10, they are going to talk about the number of pre/back-orders. I would suspect they avoid explicitly pointing out how many cancellations they had and focus on total order delta from the last earnings call.
However, if there is a material impact to the order book, they will have to provide that data point. Even if they don't volunteer it, I would suspect that it comes up in the Q/A.

just go into your configuration and it will change. My R1S LE went from 78k to 92k

Configure part of the page is a piece of software that is used for the new customers as well so they had to do that first. I still rather wait for them to change this part of it just to make sure nobody messed up in communication. I don't think I can take my cancellation back. Just have to make sure.

Or all pre-2020 orders, or all LEs, or everyone with a first half 2022 delivery date... the arbitrariness and suddenness of it is astonishing - not surprising, given their crappy comms track record, but still jaw dropping.
