Good Point! I will write Michelin and ask them to make 255/60/20 and see what happens.

:)

Efficiency readings will be off also, because the truck will think you have traveled farther than you really have. In theory, when the truck shows you 3.0 mi/kWh, your actual efficiency will be 3.0 * 0.969 = 2.91 mi/kWh. That is what would annoy me the most.

Does it rely solely on wheel rotations for this? I would have expected it to use GPS, at least as a correction factor, to account for tread wear, tire pressure, slippage, turning, etc.

I think GPS would be very unreliable for range and efficiency calculations. What if you drive in circles in a parking lot? What if you go up a very steep hill? Can GPS accurately determine how many miles you drove doing that? I seriously doubt it.

The most accurate measurements come from physical sensors on the truck that track speed and distance. And wheel rotations along the surface the truck travels is the most accurate way to determine distance.

I did that recently for Pirelli re: WeatherActive 3PMSF.

What happened: Nothing.

On the plus side the speedo will be accurate (but odometer will read 31,000 miles when you only have 30,097)...if Rivian adds different size options then it might be fixed (R1 had this issue in 2022/2023 for 33" vs 34" tires)

This is news to me.
Yep. That 34.1% stake has become a massive corporate and geopolitical hurdle for the Italian tire manufacturer.

Since Sinochem is controlled by the Chinese government, this ownership structure began threatening Pirelli's ability to expand in the United States—particularly regarding sensitive connected automotive tech.

To clear U.S. regulatory hurdles, the Italian government stepped in and imposed strict "golden power" limits on Sinochem's governance in April 2026. These restrictions stripped Sinochem of board control, limiting them to just three out of 15 board seats, and barred them from holding top executive roles like chairman or CEO.

To avoid further friction, Sinochem has been actively exploring ways to divest or reduce its stake, with European business leaders recently entering talks to acquire a chunk of their shares.

No they are not wider. The 55 vs 60 refers to the sidewall height. It is a ratio OF the width of the tire. Both are the same width.
And this makes both tires the same circumference, even though the rims are different diameters.

So weird.
Maybe not. I'd bet tire companies get all kinds of comms from automotive yahoos.

Besides, I'm sure these firms are well aware of R2 and already know what lineups will get 255/60/20 size. And don't want to disclose until launched.

Interesting thread. I plan to buy aftermarket 20" wheels and run Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 in 255/55/20. This tire does not come in 255/60/20 (R2 OEM 20" tire size ). So

Is there a difference in rolling resistance to the OEM tires?

This goes against physics. A smaller rim will give better range with all other things being equal.
THANK YOU.... I just wish we were told the TRUTH from RIVIAN.... I was told the Same lie that the 21" give you better range. PLEASE PLEASE I need to know which is the BEST for the R2 Premium Model 100% of my driving will be on the interstate for long road trips and I need to know what you advise for the maximum range, 20" AS or 21" AS. Thanks

The truth is the 22 inch wheels on my R1T are more efficient than the smaller wheels offered by Rivian. The biggest wheel is the most efficient.

Why? It has a lower rolling resistance tire and a rim that is very aerodynamic.

Smaller size only matters if it improves rolling resistance, and to a lesser extent aerodynamics.

Bigger is sometimes better. Rivian isn't lying to you.

Yeah bc they put off road tires on the 20" rim. Put the same tire that's on the 22" rim on the 20" rim and it is more efficient than the 22". Smaller rim is always "better" with the same tire and design.
