I went and checked my old Tesla CCS adapter, and it's not rated for the kind of amperage the R2 can pull from DC fast chargers.

FWIW, I just ordered a new CCS adapter from A2Z. According to Tom's video, the R2 should be good with any CCS adapter that carries the UL 2252 certification.

If I ever needed to use one on an R2, I will take this warning serious enough to check the amp capability of the supply DCFC I'm using first. Then and only then would I trust it enough to proceed with charging using a CCS adapter. If it supplies more than the 500 amp rated, I would monitor the adaptor for temp and stop/start charging in increments letting it cool if heat is detected. Obviously this would only be long enough to get to a safer DCFC, preferably NACS.

Every single CCS1 adapter is rated for 500 amps. Rated current does not equal max current though.

I am new to EV's so I would like to understand exactly what you are saying? From how I see the Rivian Adapter it can handle lower constant amps but can only accept up to 500amps for a short time which would mean it is not capable of supporting the full potential charging amperage of the R2? I think the R2 would only charge above 500amps for a short period so this may be ok?

Yeah, I noticed that too. According to comments from both A2Z and Lectron shared in the above video, they can safely handle the 600 amps for any reasonable DC fast charging duration. So because of that, I went ahead and ordered the A2Z adapter. But it'd be nice if the UL rating was updated for 600 amps.

The adapter is rated for 500 amps continuous draw. It can pull 600 amps for a short period of time. For example, the A2Z adapter says the following in the specs:

Rated Current : With Liquid cooled cables : up to 500A // Non-liquid cooled cables : 300A // Over boost : 600A for 15 minutes

R2 can’t pull 600 amps for more than 15 minutes.

The adapter on the rivian gear shop looks identical to the lectron adapter, but the documentation for it doesn't list UL2252 certification. Has anyone confirmed with Rivian that the adapter is certified, or if someone has it already, does it have the UL mark on it?

edit: I ask because I don't mind paying a few extra bucks to get the Rivian OEM adapter to avoid finger pointing if there is any kind of charging problem...

Yeah, and also...there are SO many CCS-only charging stations, that it's kinda dumb to exclude them.
