I wonder how this is going to work. I can’t see us being allowed to switch to options that now cost more. In the past I’ve played with my config several times a week, luckily I had recently settled on my config and didn’t have something I wasn’t sure about.

Anyone worried they are going to be locked into a config they were just trying on in the Rivian dressing room?

The only change I've been looking at is a color change from white to silver. That would be in Rivian's favor if the new prices reflected any actual costs. I'm also happy with white. I think it might be in their interest to make any additions occur at the new prices - maybe with advanced warning (e.g.
Components added to your existing configuration after March 15, 2022 shall utilize new pricing. Some cosmetic changes may occur without additional cost: Consult your guide to determine if such changes can be made to your existing preorder.).

I'm also wondering *what* they're going to hold to. Will it just be vehicle options? Or are they going to honor pre-increased accessories prices? I took the tent off yesterday. It's one of those things that they always said you could order after delivery, etc.

That would be quite unwelcome and I imagine that they’re not going to nickel and dime us on things like that given the magnitude of their backtrack, especially when the original price increase came with no notice.

I agree generally, but to be fair, it did come with a *little* notice.

I was still debating between the Explore and the Adventure. My current config is for an Explore. I could definitely live without the niceties the Adventure has but yes it’s still nice to have. Now it feels like either one is a steal and I’d like to change to an Adventure if they allow and if the pre hike price sticks.

I've been wondering the same thing, as someone who has changed config (and model) multiple times like many others and certainly didn't feel 100% locked into what I had set on 3/1. Then again Rivian has to guard themselves against someone taking advantage of this new dispensation and loading up on things that are now additional cost to improve resale value.

If Rivian said "you can get your 2/28 pricing on what you had configured but any changes will incur the new costs" I'd be a little disappointed but I'd still accept it.

I would 100% think that a fair compromise though.

I really think they’ll have to do something with locking people in. Hopefully not as extreme as Tesla. With Tesla any change with a order will update you to the current increased price.

That's definitely an interesting challenge for the company. Allowing changes at original prices would allow some gaming of the system by choosing options you know will go up more in price. Seems like they'd want to avoid this. I'm glad my configuration is what I actually want. It would be cool to switch to limestone, but honestly not a big deal to stick with white.

I cannot imagine them allowing changes occurring haphazard indefinitely. I expect them to revert back to 3/1/2022 configurations and perhaps allow a jubilee before locking things in. Surely changes would be allowed moving forward, but at the new prices. Unknown if your price is credited at old or new values.

I personally wouldn’t mind getting a $6k credit for a dual motor at my 3/1/2022 pricing, but I’ll just as contentedly keep the quad being I cannot eat my cake and have it too. I could make 2024 work.

I don't think they know how they're going to undo all of this. It's a big, big messy ball of yarn to untangle.

My guess is they will allow changes but it has to be done through CS or a guide, or you get the increased price. Not sure how they'd make the configurator work correctly otherwise.

But hard to say.

Counterpoint: take your quad at current price and sell in in 2024 while downgrading to the quad for a net financial gain.

I assumed a price lock might happen as we moved closer to deliveries, so I really made an effort to decide my ideal configuration at the first of the year. Of course, I didn’t expect it to play out like this… ?
