If you look back through the Reddit OP's recent posts, his delivery was delayed last month due to paint mismatch issues. I'm guessing Rivian swapped some panels on that vehicle in an attempt to fix the problem, but the paint batches still weren't a perfect match.

If the OP is here, he can correct me...like if he got a new VIN assigned. But I'm guessing this is hangover from the previously known paint mismatch issue, and not necessarily a recurrence of the issue.

Atrocious. Makes me seriously question QC on the entire vehicle. Nothing less than a perfect match is acceptable on a brand new vehicle. Delivery should have been rejected.
Depending on lighting conditions, it may not have been so obvious at the time of delivery. When I went through this with my BMW back in 2003, I didn't notice the problem until 3 days after delivery. The dealership still took care of the problem with zero hassle.

and what does "they simply won't have paint like this now" even mean?
It doesn’t mean they won’t have the paint. They’ll have the factory formula. The problem is that it’s a brand-new color, so there may not be established variants yet, and factory paint can vary a little between batches. A good shop can still match it very closely, but I wouldn’t expect a guaranteed 100% match, especially with metallic or pearl paint.

Which is exactly why if this were my purchase, I would not accept anything but a different vehicle.

ok, now I follow you. yes, and this is why blending the new paint into adjacent panels is imperative and why simply swapping for new doors would be extremely risky in terms of getting a perfect match. and yes, blending is a little trickier with metallic paints.

Looks like Rivian is doing a buy back on his 27XX vin. It sounds like the sales guy wrongly convinced him that it was lighting at delivery.
I noticed it, the sales guy convinced me it was the lighting. I’m not happy about it trust me.
I took it in yesterday. They all agreed there was a color mismatch. They are working on a “buy back” so we can get a whole new R2.
We will see how that plays out and I will update!

Good to hear this. It tracks with what I was saying earlier, that this isn't a new problem, it's just an owner who got gaslighted to take a bad paint job from the earlier set of problem batches.

I agree, blending or attempting to do so typically does not work out well.
....and significantly decreases vehicle value. Friend recently had dealership scratch his SUV while in for service. They wanted to repaint a significant portion of the vehicle to fix. He demanded they buy it back, which they did. I don't know if switching out for correct color door and charge door would be feasible but otherwise I think OP should demand a replacement vehicle.
