R2 cup holder opens on its own

I've seen reports of this in various threads and curious how pervasive it is for new owners. It has been happening more frequently for me and never had this issue with the R1. I'm curious if this is a design issue and will need to be solved with an updated part.

Have not experienced this. Mine doesn't open quite as smooth as the ones in the R1, but it works fine overall.

I haven't had the cupholders act up, but I did have the driver side glovebox fall open once. It was the first drive after I had legitimately opened it though, so I suspect I simply had not closed it properly. We'll see if it ever happens again.

You can't slam it back in there. I know that. But it needs a firm push back in for the latch to catch or it will snap back out.

I've had difficulty with mine staying closed. The day I picked up the R2 the Rivian personnel at the SC indicated he had seen cupholder issues on multiple R2s and he expected Rivian might do a recall on the cupholders and get them replaced. Obviously not a confirmed message from Rivian HQ, but it seems like they are aware that there are some issues with the cupholders.

It’s ok, the R2 comes with built-in thirst detection, it’s telling you to pull over and get a drink!

My service advisor earlier this week warned me that I might see a cupholder issue crop up (not sure if they experienced it while in service, but it hasn't hit me yet). He said there should be a mechanical fix coming down the pipe but it might be a month or two before they can officially fix it. He urged me to keep filing service requests for even the small things though because they are paying very close attention to any and all R2 issues currently.
