Update.

So.. dropped off my car on 08/18 for 1. Alignment and 2. Panel gap adjustment

They said I should I have my car back by 8/19 EOD. Just messaged me an hour ago that the key fob I left with them would unlock the car but won’t start the car and so they haven’t been able to get any of the work done. They will now try to fix the key fob first thing 8/20.

Off to a great start.

Glad to hear it! I'm assuming it just fixed the ping-ponging, right? Or did it also fix the shimmy?
I have the shimmy but it doesn't translate to the wheels so the car is stable in the lane. As a result the service center and I agreed it's probably just a software issue, but they didn't adjust any alignment (not sure if they checked/confirmed existing alignment).

Didn’t fix the shimmy. The shimmy doesn’t translate to the wheels/car so it is unrelated.

They found my car was pulling to the right especially when hitting a bump or undulation. The alignment fixed this issue

I took delivery this weekend. I was really happy with the car overall, but steering wheel shimmy forced me to send it straight to the service center. I didn't notice any alignment drift or lane ping-ponging during normal manual driving.

However, the steering wheel shimmy above 59 mph with UHF engaged is constant. If it weren’t for UHF, I don't think I would have noticed it this early, or at least wouldn't have been able to reproduce it consistently.

The Service Center has the vehicle now trying to diagnose and fix it.

I originally read this was likely a wheel/tire issue (balance, road force, or rotation or bad tires). The SC messaged me today saying a wheel balance did not fix the shimmy while on UHF, so they are going to try an alignment next.

Has anyone else dealt with this? Is this a known ADAS/steering rack issue or a bad build, and does anyone have advice on what to push the SC to look into?

I too have this exact issue. Everything I’ve read on this tread, Reddit, and Facebook leads me to believe it will be addressed with a soon to arrive software update. My car tracks perfectly and the tires are in good balance. The issue only occurs in Autonomy+ between 59 mph and 72 mph. It does not occur otherwise at those speeds. I’m guessing your SC will speak with Rivian engineering who will tell them an update is forthcoming. What baffles me is why some don’t have the shimmy…which would imply a manufacturing tolerance issue. I’ve had my R2 for 10 days…VIN 23xx, I am reasonably patient at this point but I’m ill at ease with the problem as this shimmy is unacceptable. Describe your problem to an AI tool and it will explain the technical issue if you want to know more. Seems like service is merely eliminating other possible issues before sending you on your way to await an update.

A number of us in this thread have experienced the shimmy and AFAIK no one has solved it. I can't speak to what others have learned, but my SC took a look at it and found no physical issues. The going theory is that it is just a software issue. If you feel actual movement in the car instead of just the steering wheel, then that's something to have looked at right away. But sounds like you already have balancing and alignment sorted out, so that's good.

Compare driving the same speed with and without UHF. For me, right now, the wheel only shakes while on UHF, so it should be software related and not something mechanical.

I get that the video is not on UHF but the vibration/shimmy looks eerily similar. And the fact that this thread is just eerily similar.

The thing that gets me are the people who waited until they got new wheels/tires and the vibration finally went away, or when the SC only managed to fix it on the 3rd balancing attempt, or when owners went straight to a 3rd-party wheel shop right after the SC only to find the wheels weren't balanced properly...

The distinction is that is only happens with UHF. The moment you shut off UHF it stops. Not a tire/wheel issue. Don’t feel it on regular cruise either.
