Well I do consider myself to be a fairly model consumer for Rivian, so in point of fact; yes, to an extant, your smarmy point is taken I agree. But to your wider point, I've not said that in such absolutist terms. The bigger point right now is that as a group we'd be well served to let Rivian have some time to start digging themselves out of this situation, see what they have planned, stop speculating and dial things down a bit. Nobody here knows for certain that they intend to not give you the option to make changes.

I was very vocal in my criticism of Rivian last week, I don't think anyone who recognizes my avatar would say that I'm not objective. Its going to take time. RJ said so in his email, CSS has said so via chat, and now they said so via email. Relax a bit. The sky isn't falling. Could it still? Sure., but give them a chance to make it right.
Well IMO your tone earlier didn’t read as objective, instead it read as the points people are making are not valid.

I’m not angry, just pointing out inconsistent messages coming from Rivian. They have time to do what they are going to do. If they want to selectively make winners and losers out of the preorder holders then so be it, I just won’t be one of them any longer.

From the RJ Letter,

For anyone with a Rivian preorder as of the March 1 pricing announcement, your original configured price will be honored. If you canceled your preorder on or after March 1 and would like to reinstate it, we will restore your original configuration, pricing and delivery timing. Our team will be sending an email in the next few days with more details.

He said that your original Configured Price will be honored, not that you would be able to change your configuration. I'm find with this going forward, but it sucks for those that intended on changing their config.

There should be a one-time config change window to get it set with what you want since we didn't get any warning that a price change was coming. Then, I figure from here on out that if you change your config, you get the new price in effect when you change. I don't think this is unreasonable going forward.

Thanks for highlighting RJ's email. I agree 100% that the latest email is not inconsistent with RJ's email, so there's no hypocrisy or flip-flopping going on. I do still think a one-time change would be the right thing for them to do, even if I'm entitled to no such thing.

Not sure what the policy is, but I’m taking this page out of Rivian’s playbook.

It will now cost my wife $1 every time she changes her mind.

Since we can only pick 1 colour anyway (vs loading up our configs with all the possible accessories at a discount) - I'd prefer if the colour options were the old prices going forward.

But thats also because I live in Canada and have never been offered a chance to see them in person. But at the end of the day - if changing colour from my config was new price, it's still significantly cheaper than the changes to the base+quad+large pack that showed up!

didn't see this thread until now (actually unplugged all day Sunday) and its already 9 pages, and I have a question ...

Have others, besides me, that got the original price-hike email and then RJ's mea-culpa rollback, still yet to get this most recent email yesterday or today yet? Maybe they are still rolling it out. I swear I don't understand what kind of email system Rivian is using where electronic comms have to "roll-out". You'd expect this to be instantaneously sent to all affected.
I haven't received it yet either. I sent an email to support asking about it.

Same boat as you - just seeing this thread (10 pages deep). No email for me yet either.

If Rivian had instead said that they will apply the old cost for battery pack and quad motors, but we'd pay the current price for the options would people who still want to change colors he less annoyed?

I have to ignore this thread, do not want to waste another 2 days following a thread like this.

We knew all along the prices could change, they pushed out a huge price change, then retracted it. The latest email has confirmed the retraction. We could have been paying 13k to 20k more, now might cost 1500 to 2500 to change paint color, still a win.

Personally, less annoyed. To me, that would better align with the Rivian statements all along that the configuration page was to "play around with" until it gets finalized by a Guide closer to delivery. But, I obviously have a biased perspective because we're still undecided on our exact configuration, and we also never took the time to really sit down and contemplate which color we really want, etc. Heck, we were still debating between a 5 or 7 seat configuration (obviously, that's been decided for us at this point...or, at least, I think it has).

Again, if they decide to offer options at the old price, given their previous messaging around the configurator (a Guide will contact you before it is final), I think they should offer some window of time to allow people to "finalize" under the old prices, and then any subsequent changes are on the new pricing.

Wait you found a house in Vancouver for only $1mm?!

and I mean IN Vancouver, not…chilliwack ?
hahaha No, I bought in in Roberts Creek this time last year. Biggest purchase, least time spent deciding. Drove through overpriced Chilliwack this weekend tho, it was a beauty weekend and I can see why the exodus from Vancouver, but as you said, houses there now are going for 580k+++ over asking. Stupid.

For all we know, that's what they're going to do. I think that'd be an ok compromise, but it would still be disappointing for me. My current choices (FG, FE, 20" bright AT) were the most expensive of the 3 options I was considering, and I was planning to change it back to the middle cost option (ECG, OC, and 21" wheel) literally last Tuesday. That cheaper option would have saved me $3.8k before March 1. Now it would save me only $800.

In your hypothetical, if I decided that I didn't like either FG or FE, or didn't like the combination together, I would probably switch to MB and possibly Limestone, but I need to see it also before I can make that call. I'm really skeptical of dark interior surfaces due to a bad past experience with a charcoal leather--it felt like sitting on charcoal, so it was appropriately named!--but I would make due because of the price.

Regarding the R1T Tonneau Cover…please refresh my memory that the power cover was previously standard? The configurator update in my account had all my options, but the cover was a new option to be selected. Presumably with the reversion to original orders the standard features, e.g., the cover, will be included once again.

Power cover originally included on adventure pkg, which in turn is part of launch edition.

in the configurator change, they apparently elected to make it selectable Because there are now 3 choices.

I think they should have defaulted to selecting whatever was standard on someone’s configuration before the changes.
