Has anyone who's had a delivery noticed high battery usage by the Rivian iOS App? Disabled access to location when not open which seemed to help slightly, but I'm still running close to 40% over 24 hours.

Included a snap of the Tesla app for background usage comparison.

That’s because it’s on in the background and watching you while you shower and eat cereal….

Interesting. On my iPhone 11 Pro, I've had the app installed since it was initially available and not noticed a detriment to battery life. Have you taken delivery of a vehicle? If so, perhaps yours is more active since it is actually talking to the truck.

Yes, I’m specifically asking folks who have delivered R1Ts.

I’m sure it is talking more (and it’s mostly background activity) but so is the Tesla app with 4% usage.

Not on iOS, but with Android I saw zero change between pre and post-delivery with regards to background usage and battery drain.

Out of curiosity, could you go to Settings -> Rivian and take a screenshot of what is shown there? For an app that doesn't have a car connected, it looks like this.

I’ve had my truck for a couple days now and have been driving it EVERYWHERE. My Rivian app isn’t using a particularly absurd level of battery on my device, at least not out of the range of all the other apps I use ?‍♂

Mine is identical except I changed location to "While Using" to see if that would help the issue.

Thanks for the info. I have noticed that since our garage is close to our living space, when I walk 'near' the garage with my phone, the truck unlocks and re-locks, maybe that's a contributing factor. 16% is still higher than 4% (the 4% is with it attached to two Teslas) but definitely better than 38 or 40%.

Very early on Tesla did the same 'present the handles' thing when you walked close with the phone. That quickly fell out of favor and they added an option for gently tapping on a door handle to get the car to present when you have the phone. From walking around the truck often, that's definitely a setting that needs to happen on the Rivian.

I would be curious how that setting works. My understanding was to get it to auto-unlock the vehicle as you approach it had to be set to always.

My Rivian app has been at the top of my battery usage list since i got my truck and turned the key on.

I will say, the key feature on Android is slow even with the newest release, i usually have to turn my phone on in my pocket or even take it out of my pocket and hold it to the door handle sometimes.

Ironically I used chrome a lot this morning.

Interesting as we were just talking about this, so Rivian has stated (service department told me this recently) it will not auto-unlock or lock without it set to 'Always'. You will need the app actively open at the time you approach the vehicle.

In my real world usage, that is not the case. App closed, set to 'while using', the bluetooth connections connect and disconnect the same and it has had no effect on proximity locking. Now, that could be different with another version of the app etc but right now it works fine.

I would hope not... It should be based on if the vehicle "sees" your device via bluetooth... Not based on GPS location.

I agree, that was why I asked as the documentation says different. Was curious if they were doing something odd.
