Not trying to take anything away from the R1T clip in the original post, but here is a modified Model 3 doing the same crossing:

Spoiler - the M3 doesn't fair quite as well as the R1T...

I think we need wheel inserts that act as propellers when fording deep rivers.

Not sure it counts if you brick the car and need to be towed out of the desert…. ??

100% agree; posted merely for the amusement of watching another EV try to do the same exact thing.

Arizona has a “stupid motorist law” which is intended to discourage people from driving their cars into wash with rapidly running water, usually after a monsoon.

So I've noticed something over the years and I'm expecting it holds true with the Rivian.

The more capable my vehicle is at going into the depths of water the less likely I am to actually try and cross any given water.

I'm just saying, it's a lot cheaper to solve stupidity in a 1986 Honda Accord than it is $70-100k truck and water is neither forgiving nor easy to judge.

Serious advice though if you're testing your wading depth off-road - stick to well traveled crossings, don't cross a strong current if you can avoid it, go super slow, and back out if you get too deep or hit an obstacle.

If you have to cross a strong current, avoid deep water (anything that'll touch the cab) and cross at an angle if possible. Leave your windows open and consider leaving your seatbelt off for quick egress if things go tits up. If it's deep/strong enough that it starts pushing the vehicle around, try squaring up into the water to reduce your cross section and get ready for a ride. Always remember, water doesn't fuck around so calculate your risks before doing anything stupid.
You forgot one thing…

Not only depth but potential for hidden obstacles and, especially with flood waters, rushing currents that can sweep a vehicle away.

In this video though, it appears they may be at a well traveled crossing.
Looks like high water on a roadway, based on the wire rail on both sides and the roadway in and out. This would be a pretty safe area to cross. Awesome seeing it in action and not having to worry about flooding the engine.

That bridge may no longer be suitable for vehicular use. I have seen bridges, still standing, that had been closed for decades.
And, as someone else said - it's offroading. It's a chance to test and learn the capabilities of the vehicle and driver.

Arizona has a “stupid motorist law” which is intended to discourage people from driving their cars into wash with rapidly running water, usually after a monsoon.
That, if I'm not mistaken, comes into play when someone disregards (or goes around) the barriers that have been put up to stop people from going through a flooded roadway. I don't think it applies if there are no barriers.
But don't be stupid - know what you're crossing.
