I fully admit my EV ignorance. I assumed that the various EV charging points I had seen would actually change the vehicle lol. Well they don’t charge at a level I think any reasonable user needs. I’ve tried a grand total of 3 chargers in my area and the best rate so far has been 14mph. With a low of 2.6 at the Maple Grove GRE campus. For me this could make the truck a toy vs a tool as I await my 60 amp chargers for work and home.

My experience so far has been with ChargePoint chargers and my Rivian 120v plug in at 2mph.

Where are the DC fast chargers around here ? 20 minutes into charging and I have recovered the distance from my place to the charger. What a frikin joke

Forgive any typos as I’m stuck at a charging station without my glasses and my IPhones doesn’t offer Braille

I recommend the PlugShare app for your phone or plugshare.com on your pc. You can set the filters to search for just Level 3 CCS chargers (DC fast chargers) and zoom in on the map for your location.
I don't know which part of Minnesota you're in, but it looks like the state is well covered with CCS options.

Minnesotas charging infrastructure is garbage currently. 50kw stations are mostly the max. There’s the one EA over in Woodbury but that’s a far ways from MG.

Close to MG is the 50kw out at albertville outlet mall. And really the only thing that one has going for it is that it is currently “faulted” which just means it’s dispensing for no charge right now.

I charged at an EA station yesterday near a Target in Beaverton, OR, my first charge. It was a 150kw charger.

I charged for just under 17 min went from 37% to 62% and averaged just under 150kw. Not the fastest charging in the world but no complaints.

Oh my, that ChargePoint station is like 5 kW. You're not off the mark, that rate isn't useful to anyone. Hopefully your 60A (11.5 kW) chargers will be installed soon!

You need to be looking for stations that are 150 or 350 kW if you truly want to fast charge. Most likely this means you will be looking for an Electrify America station. If there's nothing close by, at least try to look for something that offers 50 kW.

As suggested above, you need to take advantage of PlugShare or ABRP or perhaps even the Rivian's nav system if it will allow filtering based on charging station output (not sure that it does at the moment).

First Thanks I signed up and will be on my way to a 50kw charger. I had hoped the Rivian app would have served the same purpose but it doesn’t show the 50kw options (of which there aren’t enough) yet, on the app or in vehicle map.

Definitely use the ratings on the charging locations. The fast chargers at goodwill at super hit and miss with it they’re functioning at all. They’re also super expensive I’ve found.

On the bright side, there’s probably lots of MN folks willing to pay a pretty penny for your “toy” if your charging situation doesn’t improve.

I see nothing but a single station 30 miles away with 70kw or better. WTF But there are a few 50 kw chargers around. I should have ordered my charging units sooner but I was pleasantly surprised by my R1T arriving sooner than anticipated

Yeah there’s no real DCFC here.

There’s two more EA stations going in on i90 currently and planned somewhere in the metro and along 94 and 35 by … some nebulous future date.

The reality is not everywhere in the world is ready to support EVs. The charging infrastructure in Minnesota looks pretty sad at the moment. Mostly 50kW chargers with only two greater than 150kW. 50kW will work, but you are looking at 60-120 minute charging times.

Electric trucks are going to be the worst case scenario because they require large batteries, and therefore higher power chargers and longer charging times.

My recommendation would be to do a lot of research about charging infrastructure over the next couple of weeks, and map out potential road trips you would like to take your R1T over the next couple of years. If the infrastructure doesn't exist, then I would seriously consider selling your truck. It's going to be another 3-5 years for the infrastructure to really fill in the gaps across the country.

I'll likely be keeping my winter ICE suv for road trips until MN leaves the stone ages of charging infrastructure. Don't get me started on N.Dakota and Montana. If only Tesla would open up their network.

I feel like that’s gonna be a while. EA is only planning along the interstates. And ZEF is not going to build anything more than single station 50kw from my last conversations with them (granted that was a year or so ago at this point).

So road tripping here is really going to be planning to be really slow…

Thanks for the update. I'd be stoked with evenly spaced 150kw+ along major interstates. Seems like 70 through Nebraska to CO is viable so that'll likely be my first trip. 99% rest of driving I can handle with home charging. I get away with riding a bicycle way more than I drive thankfully. I know that's not the case for everyone though. Wonder what % EV adoption in MN looks like vs rest of the country. My guess is low given our cold a$$ winters.
