This guy got a custom paint job and now he's salty???

Kidding. That still sucks about your truck.
Lol. I know, I'll stop. I'll wait till it gets BACK to complain any more.

I sincerely hope you're right. But given I don't have a guide and my configuration isn't even locked yet, seems highly unlikely.
If it makes you feel any better, I ordered a year before you (February 2019), am in Denver, and still have never been contacted by a guide. I am not sure why that would make you feel better unless you just enjoy the suffering of others, but figured it couldn't hurt. ;)

On the bright side, I did finally get a test drive scheduled after some pestering, so things are looking up! I am super excited to get to drive one, and hopefully make some progress towards delivery over the next month (March-April window).

That does not make me feel better. Sorry to hear that for you. Are you R1T LE?

I think pestering is the only way to get a test drive in Denver. Or, be someone who ordered in the last few months, as they seem to have gotten invites.

I have a wild guess as to what may have happened. If I'm right, it could explain a lot of what has been observed. My speculation is: The initial registration form for pre-orders used an incremental ID. People got all excited about that and looked up their number to gauge where they are in line.
https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/threads/find-your-rivian-order-number-post-it-here.644

Then, Rivian got serious about not letting the cat out of the bag with numbers of orders and updated the form and database to use large numbers for later orders.

My GUESS is when that database was updated the date or timestamp field was either dropped or changed, so that all early orders are in a big pile with no timestamps on them at all. Or some production queries to pull out the orders doesn't like the rows from before the ID change was made.

Just my guess here, I could be totally wrong. But it is difficult to get a good list out of a database by numerous variables, like Service Centers, distance from them, configuration items, etc.

Sorry OP - that would test anyone's patience. I won't hypothesize on why it happened but am curious if you know the initial delivery window estimate that they gave your neighbor? Was it also 4/1-4/30?

I got the impression from various social media posts and guide convo. that many people were being offered an opportunity to take a truck ASAP as long as they were ok with it not being exactly 100% what they ordered. I think this was an end of quarter push to move unclaimed trucks and get butts in seats. So, seems it was an unusual, chaotic week and the normal "first ordered, first filled" path was out the window for the most part and more down to which guide could speak for an unclaimed truck first and get it moved.

I'll bet we're back to more regularly scheduled programming now that Q2 is around the corner.

Counterpoint: Your current delivery estimate has not passed. No reason to get upset other than just being jealous. Also, Feb 2020 is not that early of an order, even if they were going in exact order I doubt it would be your turn.

That being said, yes I’d be irked too ?

Yea, like I'd probably be irked too; but like we're 5 pages into this thread. Having a couple hundred people egg me on by telling me "yea man, this is bullshit," wouldn't be cathartic to me. ...it would just reinforce my anger and push me to place that makes me that much more difficult to please regardless of how great the final product may or may not be.

Just saying, don't ruin the whole experience for yourself; over something like this.

I appreciate everyone's perspectives, and thank you for your feedback. We can probably just let the thread die. I'll leave with a couple of closing comments/thoughts:

  • I tried calling CS this morning, but they seem to be overwhelmed at the moment (chat said the wait was an hour+ when I looked earlier). I requested a call-back, but I'm not holding my breath.
  • I'm frustrated for sure. But it's not the end of the world. We're all anxious, and I (stupidly) sold my car over a year ago, so each day that goes by seems like forever
  • My estimated delivery window doesn't even open until tomorrow, so Rivian hasn't actually done wrong by me from that perspective
  • It SUCKS that someone who ordered so long after me, and ordered the exact same spec, got their car first. And it's going to suck every single time I pass them in the neighborhood until mine eventually arrives. I don't know why it happened, and it seems unfair, but such is life.
  • I've got my big-boy pants on today, and I'm pretty chill in general. I'll be annoyed for a little while longer and then go back to the anticipation and excitement of what will be an amazing vehicle.

Yeah, R1T LE. I have changed the configuration around a bit, so maybe that is why. Who knows. They still tell me we are on track when I ask. I am expecting the date will slip a bit at this point, but as long as it happens in the next couple months, I won't be too upset.

It's all just an April Fool's joke and your Rivian will be in your driveway tomorrow, with perfect paint and panels, charger and all accessories, and a guide that is a former Swedish swimsuit model that takes you first off roading to get all dirty, then to dinner and late night dancing.

Do you know the circumstances around your neighbors truck? Maybe they’re an employee or an employee friend? Maybe they got offered a different spec than they originally ordered?
