Also, the comfort functions (climate) listed as limited. Vehicle went into what the service tech called "turtle mode" with speed limited to 63 mi/hr and very slow acceleration from stop. I was told to turn off all communication from my phone and let the vehicle sit for a half hour or so...called this a sleep cycle. After that, the icons that had been on the screen

weren't there so, per the service tech, I took it for a little spin...maybe a mile later, all the notifications were back. Love the truck, appreciate the responsiveness of the service guys, hope all is resolved soon. Will touch back...

Based on the other forums I frequent, here were some 12 volt issues initially with the Kia Niro EV. Dodged those, pleased to say. There are still reported issues in Niro EVs with the main batteries keeping the 12 volt up when the vehicle has been parked for a while.

I understand that there is a vast array of car tech that uses 12 volt and that they can't be instantly reinvented, but I look at this as a temporary kludge...hopefully, because there are issues.

In the meantime it's a big bummer. Hope you get it sorted quick. Thanks for sharing.

Guess we know why all the employee deliveries had NDA/gag orders in place... lots of teething issues to work out at the factory. They will work out the issues, just like Tesla did with the early Model S vehicles.

Picking it up Monday, the 11th...pretty quick response. I was offered a rental or ride share support but, being retired and having another EV, I declined...

Sounds like an issue with the 12v causing voltage faults or something along those lines.
Tesla has the 12V battery problem. This sounds similar but given the Rivian is a different design, I think this is more likely either
(1) a computer defect resulted in more than one computer failure
(2) a power supply defect (e.g. faulty ground) is causing faults in more than one onboard system

I wouldn't compare the R1 to the S3XY, I'd say it's the beneficiary of the 10 years Tesla has spent never fixing the defects of the first S and first X. I certainly wish the R1 had the technology of the Model Y, but the R1 is a 2018 model and the Y is a 2022 model … so far, even Tesla hasn't offered time travel.
So far, with hundreds of "end user" deliveries and social media thirsting for "dirt" there's no whistle blown.
I was at a service center last week and the techs were … training and preparing … I was the only customer there, with the only vehicle in for service. No crowds of early adopters in dismay that their long-awaited first-kid-on-the-block toy was a lemon.

It seems like some of these issues are more common that I thought. This guy is talking about breaks and suspension overheating (Min 26):

Truck was picked up on time this AM...pretty good for having put in the trouble ticket on Friday. They will flatbed it to the service center...will report on updates.

I took mine out for a quick spin on a go kart track nearby and after a couple laps pulled off the track and it had a bunch of faults, but I just let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes and they all went away. Had me quite concerned for a second, but I figured it might go away on it's own.

All issues resolved...will have the truck back today. Pretty amazing service. I have the launch edition, 2019, of the Kia Niro EV...the local dealer never dealt with its teething issues with such speed. I'm very impressed.

BTW: all issues were due to the windshield wiper mechanism disturbing a wiring yoke. Again, in comparison to my Kia dealer who did get things fixed eventually (it took a while because the techs really were ICE techs with only a bit of training in the EV), having a team that really knows the truck makes a huge difference.

Here's hoping Rivian's service can scale as the thousands and thousands of remaining R1's get delivered this year.
