How

Do you know if having high voltage battery problems is common or just a fluke?
From what I have seen from this forum and others, it seems like I’m the first. The service advisor did say this is the first HV battery replacement they have done at their service center.

I saw clip of someone taking truck to service center and getting R1T loaner.... which apparently had some issues as well. Eugene Kim was his name.
Wait. I know that dude! If it is the same guy. I didn’t know he ordered an R1T. I’ll text him and find out. What “clip” are you referring to?

Good for you!! You showed great patience and it seems like early on Rivian Service was able to address something significant and make it right!! I'm actually encouraged.....

This forum has been dormant for a while. However, I took delivery today in Brooklyn. Drive about 200 miles home including stops and a charge. Everything worked great!

Got home and it said “drives modes were unavailable, call Rivian Service”. Moments later, I got the dreaded “Critical Battery Issue” message.

Attempted all the resets and nothing. Have a call in to service now. Anyone else had an issue with this? Thanks for the help!

I'm sorry to say that my new R1T died today from the same Critical Battery Issue. Parked in my garage, but not on charge. Got in it this morning as was hit with the warning. Same as you, I called Service and did the resets but the alert remained. Approximately 4 hours later it is now totally dead! Now I'm waiting on the tow truck to take it back to Atlanta. Luckily, I did not have anything in the gear tunnel, bed, or frunk and the truck was unlocked. I did need my building keys from the console. I pulled the jumper cables from the rear bumper and was able to jump enough juice to activate the console switch and got my keys out. (Rivian has got to come up with a solution for manually operating electronic latches/buttons.) Reading all of the posts about having to endure a long wait for a total HV battery replacement, and NO courtesy loaner, REALLY STINKS!

"...jumper cables from the rear bumper and was able to jump enough juice...". What?? Humor or really possible?

Possible to jump the system computer that way, yes. That's the computer that runs off the 12V battery, and if that battery dies the whole vehicle is bricked until you replace or recharge it.

Seriously. Remove the trailer hitch cover. To the right of the hitch is a round cover. Pry it off and pull out the two wires. (Snug so it takes some effort.). You'll have a red and a black wire with protective tape on the metal ends. Take the tape off and you have jumper wires to the 12v batteries. I ran jumper cables from another care to the connectors. It worked enough to get some power to open things.
