Although I'm certainly not optimistic, this email does not say the R1S won't be delivered until 2023.

It says that some R1S preorders are going to pushed back until next year, but it definitely doesn't say all of them are pushed back.

I'm not one to frequently defend Rivian's production failures or lack of communication, but I think you are misrepresenting the message in the email.
Of course, r1s deliveries have been going strong since December 2021, so obviously not delayed until 2023... /s

I and most wouldn't hold our breaths until 2023 for an r1s delivery. It is what it is. I wish rivian would be more transparent instead of soon email this, soon config this... Etc.

Here we go again... no email here. March 2019 pre-order R1S June/July (2022) window.

Read those tea leaves!

And so it goes for Rivian comms.

More questions than answers, obvious long delays for the R1S with no guts to actually say such, and more BS.

SOP.

/s Hey, somebody took a picture of one on a car carrier- we all know that's PROOF customer deliveries have started! Just because there's hundreds of people who have their R1S in their garage but don't post here it doesn't mean deliveries haven't happened.../s off

for us investors, this is bad news. means theyre not going to hit 25K orders by end of 2022, unless they decide they really want to focus on ramping the T more and the S they just trickle out. that could possibly get them still to 25K but doubt it.
I don't understand this line of reasoning. If anything, this makes them more likely to hit their numbers as they will be simplifying the process to streamline production of a single product line. If they simply maintain their current pace (VINs in the 7k already) and crank out 10k EDVs as planned they will hit their goal of 25k delivered.

R1 Shop configuration swaps lose original kitchen, shuttle, and tent pricing:

*Adventure Gear included in your existing configuration will transfer to R1 shop configurations except for the Camp Kitchen, Three-Person Tent and Gear Tunnel Shuttle.
That's not what that says. What it's saying is that those three things won't transfer over because they are not currently available for anyone. Everything else can get moved over to an "in stock" vehicle.

notice how they are trying to dispel the "Rivian lottery" narrative? "We tested this approach with customers across a spectrum of preorder dates to ensure it would be valuable". uh... yeah sure. why would you need to test this across a spectrum of preorder dates? you screwed early order holders with your disorganized inventory/delivery scheme (or just desire to make more $ on post 3/1 prices) and now this is CYA.
From an investor perspective I think they are going to hit that 25k numbers. They've reiterated that on multiple occasions.

What I think they're going to do is produce and sell as many R1T's as they can since the line has been producing those. Taking one more complication out of the chain. Also, reading between the lines, they're going to sell them to whomever has a reservation who is closest to a service center with a similar configuration. The goal is to hit as many vehicle deliveries as possible, and forget about the reservation timing. Investors will be happy if they meet their production and revenue goals.

I'd go even further. They are already on pace for ~15k+ of the R1's with a slow start to the year and a current pace of only running 30 hour weeks. RJ has said later this summer they will increase shifts and be running the line at a 33%-50%+ higher rate at least with increased supplies. If so, they should be able to get to at least 20k R1's if not more, before any vans are counted. I think they can do 15k+ R1's in just 2H 2022 (they can do that with just the current pace of 100/day)

Wow if you search my post history I called this back a month or two ago that there should just be a "soonest available" option on the build config. NAILED IT!

For me, I want my OC interior. I just cant do BM without changing my exterior color. I think I could do limestone or red canyon with BM interior, but if I'm paying this much I want my RB and OC! I'm willing to wait while the bugs (hopefully) get ironed out.

When I've purchased cars, the exact car I want is often not on the lot. If it's something close, I may say OK, if not, the dealer goes into the system to try to locate a match. Once again, they show me cars that are close matches. I say, yeah that works or no, in which case I have to go down the 'special order' path.

Heck, go on-line and do a 'Build this car' on a manufacturer's website. After finishing the configuration, it searches inventory and shows you vehicles that are close to your build. If there isn't one that meets your needs, you have to order it. Maybe it's just bad luck on my part (or the fact that I've never purchased a white F-150) but this seems like a pretty standard practice...i.e, if you want to take it home today, these are your choices. If criticism is due, it seems to me it should be 'why did it take so long to implement this!?!'
