For the record I was talking to a senior service tech and discussed the vampire drain. He agreed it was a problem and ensured me Rivian was working on it.. ? @Max
I just hope people get used to this being variable based on temperature extremes.

An example, near the beach in Orange County, CA temps are usually between 60 and 80 degrees. My Model S typically will lose 1 to 2 miles in the garage over a weekend if not used. I was in Coachella Valley, CA Wednesday, was working in the garage so left the car in the driveway, was 105 degrees, I heard the BMS turning on the chillers for the batteries off and on all day, consumed 14 miles of range in 10 hours sitting in the driveway.

I wholeheartedly agree. BMS is there for a reason in extreme high or low temps.

If Rivian can tune things so I lose 1-2 miles of range over a weekend while sitting in my insulated garage I will be more than happy.

A little more data I found interesting. I just hit 2,500 miles. It took me 70 days. I have only charged at home so far. This gives me data from my charger for total actual KWh consumed including charging losses. 1646 KWh.

I pay 14.5 cents per KWh and gas is about $5 here. So I spent $239 on charging. Based on these numbers I can back into 52 MPG on a cost basis. $239/$5 = 47.8 gallons equivalent. Then 2,500/47.8 = 52 MPG. These numbers change wildly based on your electric cost or price per gallon of gas.
Got me interested. Here are my numbers after ~3 months:

3,525.9 mi.
1,618 kWh
$0.112208 per kWh
$4.99 per gallon @ Costco

2.18 mi/kWh average
$181.55 spent on electricity
37.20 equivalent gallons of fuel

~94.77 mpg

Awesome stats. Thank you both for sharing. I hope we get more such feedback. This initial set of n=2 says what we should already know: Your Mileage May Vary.

Also, @thedole may or may not have a lead foot. ?

Thanks for sharing.

Based on me getting 20 mpg in my Grand Cherokee and gas being 6.40 a gallon here in CA, kWh is 22 cents, 3529 miles here would be gas $1128 and electricity $256. Even at the EA cost at 31 cents cost would be $362.

Very happy with my first road trip experience in my R1T! Traveled from San Jose, CA to Lake Tahoe

Averaged 2.3miles/kw averaging 70-75mph with AC on, mid 80s outside temp from San Jose to Rocklin, CA (mostly flat). Conserve on Low

Averaged 1.5 miles/kw going uphill from Rocklin, CA to Olympic Valley 6000 feet incline over 90 miles.

This was my first road trip, and ABRP/infotainment suggested stopping for a quick 15 minute charge, but it wasn't necessary. I arrived in Tahoe with plenty of buffer.

On the return trip, I left with 208 miles remaining, traveled 240 miles home and still had 11 left. Of course it was downhill, but was awesome doing the whole drive without a stop! (Used Conserve on Lowest going back)

Tbh i found lowest to have no issues for me, didn't feel like it was hitting anything even over bumps.

Also had negative phantom drain lol. Parked one day at 238 miles, next day it had 241 lol. I didn't notice any phantom drain on other days either. Seems like this is more or less fixed in 2022.19 as long as you don't keep waking the car up by being nearby

That’s really good. Does this include charging losses? I’m close to you without them.

This was the kWh reported by the truck. I charged with a few different chargers and didn't have all of the pertinent data available.

Edit: I also don't fully trust the numbers I get from the Rivian Wall Charger... One day it said I used 533 kWh, and another said 823.2 kWh!

I also don't trust the numbers on the trip computer, I have seen clearly erroneous numbers there more than a handful of times.

That said, super impressed your car is telling you 2.18 mi/kWh. I can get such efficiencies on long drives but when idle drain gets factored in I regularly see closer to 1.6-1.8 mi/kWh on the computer.

Drive more and sit less to fix those numbers ;)

Well I have had my truck 12 weeks and it has over 6000 miles.

I could drive more I guess ;)
