I simply pointed out whether anyone noticed how the hood, which isn't sloped is an eye sore.
I don't find the hood to be an eye sore at all. In fact, being able to see the hood helps with spatial awareness (without having to rely exclusively on cameras). I also find the ridges stamped into the hood to help with placing the vehicle at times (lane centering, placing the wheels precisely between the guide rails of an automated car wash, etc).

Yes, look where you want to go. Driving 101.

My 16yo took his road test a few months ago. 3 minutes of driving. Use a signal, turn left, stop at the sign, passed. Astonishingly, 50% is the failure rate for that.
Driving 101 helps to take your eyes off the hood?
It's astonishing how you are trying to dismiss a large object (e.g., hood) that can't be ignored because it's in front of your eyes the whole time!
No need to turn on your defense mechanism. If it doesn't bother you, just keep staring at the hood and be happy.

Do you also stare at your own big red nose when you walk?

Get back in your clown car and stay away from trucks. Or take a basic intro to driving course.

Everyone is brave on the internet.
I was genuine asking if big a$$ hood that is not sloped is interfering with front vision and you turn on your defense mechanism. Pathetic reply.
Needless to say, you accuse me of owning a clown car, yet have no idea what's parked in my garage.

I don't think anyone is being defensive but you. You are insisting on something that it seems only you care about, and in fact are making statements that this issue would be affecting your ability to drive. Your profile shows you currently have a Volkswagen E-Golf, definitely a big difference in cars going for either of the R1 platform vehicles. There are some differences you will have to expect when getting a car in this category. This is a debatably mid-sized SUV, but it certainly is closer to the Tahoe's and G-Wagon's of the world than the Outback's and Explorer's. The large boxy profile is what to expect from a car like this.
I personally am used to big and big-hooded cars and I don't see any point in a sloped hood other than aerodynamics. I would much prefer the extra frunk space than seeing a little more of the road ahead of me or save 5 miles more on total range.

Throwing clown comments is not defensive? No, my nose doesn't interfere with visibility in respect to big a$$ hood (not sloped) that interferes with visibility.

What does my shared family car (e-Golf) have anything to do with discussion of sloped hood? I was told to get back into my clown car and stay away from trucks. That was verbose reply from offensive user <Allegedly>

Do I need to list every car in my garage and driveway? One of my GLE 350 is boxy as well and with sloped hood, visibility is superior.

No I would describe that as an offensive comment, I think you have your offense and defense mixed up. There has not been much defending as much as there has been piling up on you for your complaint.

I don't know what world you live in, but your GLE 350 isn't boxy, nor is it comparable to the R1S, especially when the same company makes a car way more comparable to the R1S that is boxier and in all ways more similar.

Hey I don't want to get into the banter you guys are having so lets make that clear.

I've driven plenty of cars with long hood/bonnet that do not slope and is not an issue. In fact, the way my driving position is adjusted in any vehicle is such that I really don't look down on the hood. My line of sight is such that I have to actually try to see the hood to see where that is.

The original image you'd shown of R1S and Odyssey is misleading (we used to own and drive one). The R1S appear to be set to the highest ground clearance and the Odyssey driving position in the front makes it look like one cannot see the road. NOT True, because the seating height of R1S would be higher, along with the clearance height.

So, in the end, It is about your driving position preference. Its sort of like setting the side rear view mirrors. Some people set the passenger mirror to go down along the side of the vehicle while others set it to cover the blind spot. You can certainly set the seat such that it is bit obstructed by the hood, or such that it does not.

When I saw the R1S on the street in camo, next to a Ford Flex (similar hood/windschield layout) at the stop light, it did not seem anything unusual about the hood height relative to the rest of the vehicle and the driving position.

I was told to take driver education 101 course. This way they can teach me how not to stare at a hood in front and use turning signals. What a pathetic reply by <Allegedly>

Let's throw Honda Pilot into the mix. Is this a boxy SUV with sloped hood or is it my imagination?

You had me at "bigger than the 4runner" though I would love to see a comparison against a 2014+ GX460 (which is slightly larger than a 4runner).
Sorry for late reply.
The Toyota Sequoia which is shown just below 4Runner, is the same platform and size as Lexus GX. Looks nearly identical to R1S size with just the rear bumper extending 3-4" further back, and the R1S having a drop more cargo space at top of squared off liftgate.

Basic driver's education? Is that where the instructor guides you to not to keep your eyes on the hood? How can you not, it's right in front of you the whole time!

I simply pointed out whether anyone noticed how the hood, which isn't sloped is an eye sore. Clearly there's no engineering purpose behind straight hood.
I guess it's a matter of perspective (pun intended). Over the years, I've driven many different vehicles, hood length never bothered me or interfered with on the road driving, and that ranges from a Isuzu box truck with no front hood to a Western Star dump truck, which had a hood the size of a whole BMW Mini, lol. If you recline too far, yeah, the hood might be a problem if it's not sloped. I've seen people drive like this, I don't get it.

There are lots of engineering issues to consider in front end design, and a "straight" hood can be the result due to many compromises forced during design. Comparing a minivan hood to a truck hood is comparing apples and walnuts. Does the sloped hood minivan or car have air suspension with 6.5" of adjustability? Clearance for underhood components, storage considerations, and US and government regulations are just some of the design issues. Did you know that hood height, hood impact softness and even SHEETMETAL RADIUS/FOLD ANGLES are regulated, all in the name of pedestrian safety?

Front hood does not bother me aesthetically. I have yet to drive a Rivian, but I'm sure it won't be an issue for me.

This thread is hilarious.
I agree on the fact that no one should be looking at the hood of their car while driving and that if that’s the case they should adjust their driving position as well as learn to look far ahead (that will help with accident avoidance and such).
The old Honda Pilot comparison with the R1S is the best though. The Pilot has so much rake to the whole vehicle that frankly the hood height is not even a point anymore. That comparison also shows that the hood on the R1S is sloping too…

Anyway, can’t wait to get my brick to replace my current brick.

I saw a Grand Wagoneer yesterday and it is huge and boxy and the R1S looks just like from the side and rear. I am beginning to think the R1S is too big for my needs. If I ever get delivery I might just flip it and wait for the R1SS
