Here is my story,

After getting the form email about a rental I decided to just get this done. I had been emailing my guide for over a month about the registration to receive only platitudes.

Three weeks ago I sent a copy of a letter I received from the WI DOT that the registration had been under funded. I was assured once again that this was being handled.

So literally the morning I got that form letter I drove promptly over to the DMV. They said my registration is in process and had only been issued $100 which was well short of the total. I promptly paid the remainder and was handed WI plates immediately.

In round numbers Rivian had charged ME $400 for title and license fees and the DMV had received $100 which was well short of the Approx $300 that was owed in TOTAL.

I will now deal with my guide to get a refund.

These are unforced errors that just create a negative experience.

When in doubt just go to the DMV.

For you, it was ONLY $300. For those of us in California, it's closer to $10,000 by the time you add in sales tax. I want Rivian to do what they're supposed to do and take care of it.

YOu are correct I am referring only to the licensing and registration fees.

Well, Rivian shorted me again. I told my guide that TX requires proof of inspection before my self-registration documents were sent but they didn't bother to include it when the documents were overnighted to me. He said that it shouldn't be needed on a new car...

I spent a couple of hours at the DMV today and, sure enough, they wouldn't let me self-register because I don't have my proof of safety inspection.

There are a few people from TX on here that have successfully gotten their plates - can anyone shed light on where/how you obtained your proof of safety inspection?

My guide is MIA and nobody else at Rivian says that they can help me. The DMV said that this typically comes from the dealership.

So whoever they contracted to do this work doesn't have their act together. Nice.

My guide is MIA also. I am in Texas and waited over 3 months. They randomly appeared on my doorstep via FedEx about 2 weeks ago. I received my R1T on March 31st. It seems they do not have their ducks in row.

I got my R1T on March 21st and am still SOL. I thought there was light at the end of the tunnel when I received my stuff to self-register, but am still in purgatory until I get proof of safety inspection document.

I really wish that Rivian would set up a hotline or have someone available to talk to that can help with the registration issues. Every time I manage to get ahold of my guide, it's "I'm just the middle-man - the T&R department normally handles this." There is no way that I know of to speak with the T&R department and none of the other Rivian service numbers will help with the registration process.

Does any know if someone close to RJ manages his Twitter account? One option would be everyone impacted to start tweeting and generate some pressure. My advice would be to do it respectfully but I'd be lying if I wasn't tempted to write a bot that tweets at him every day that I don't have my tags.

I am also waiting for my registration with some added complications trying not to lose a low digit license plate. I sent an email to RJ asking for his intervention and to my surprise received a phone call from him three minutes after hitting “send”. He was gracious, apologetic and put his team on getting my issue resolved.

They seem pretty aware of the issues, including some system issues on transfers rather than new registrations.

I had a similar experience with RJ reaching out to me directly (on a Sunday, no less). I agree that they are keenly aware of the issues, are focusing resources to address them, and feel pretty badly about all this. After dropping the ball initially, it seems they are working hard at fixing this.

Most dealerships use a third party service to handle the DMV paperwork for customers...
And many, many times they mess it up. At least that has been my own experience.

Another day and no reply from guide or paperwork. Time to start hitting other points of contact.

@Joninrye - what email address did you use for RJ?

Officially in tag purgatory here. Tag expired 3rd week of June. Guide tells me that I now can't even self register because as they were getting everything together the company in NY that is handling registrations notified them they finished everything up with the state, so we now HAVE to wait on them. But their next part won't be completed until July 18th for whatever reason. None of it makes any sense. I will have been without the truck for well over a month by the time I finally get the tag though. Completely unacceptable and an unforced error. And to top it all off, I started asking my rep about this issue in late May, when nothing had been done and we were a couple of weeks away from the tag expiring.

Right there with you. Mine expired then as well and I started contacting people in early May. I got various dates the paperwork had been "sent" to the PennDOT. Today is the most recent deadline as I am to get all my paperwork back from the state. As soon as I check the mail I will start contacting people again. Not that I am not 100% confident all will take place on schedule. One other bit of info. PennDOT had nothing in its system as of Wednesday about my truck.
