Feast your eyes! Here's the latest inventory for the Northwest now showing in the shop:

Shop Screen Grab.jpg
Almost all these builds still available to me in Atlanta. A few possible conclusions:
1) Most people who have Shop access have decided to stick with their builds. In other words, they are running out of early preorder holders who are willing to get 21s, no underbody shield, no spare, etc. Interesting since I've seen there are at least a few 2021 preorder holders who have bought from the Shop.
2) They could be building large batches for direct sale on the Shop

I don't think it's a leap to say pretty soon if they keep up only putting out these builds they are going to be back in the situation where they are building trucks no one with a preorder before 2022, (in a location they are willing to deliver to) wants. Then it's back to bad press about very late preorders jumping the line.

Rivian, work out your supply chain shit. Stop worrying about crap like in-house PPF and deliver the trucks we (I) ordered!

They are still a car company. Unfortunately, I often believe they forget manufacturing the product people want / order is the essence of a car (or any manufacturing) company. It is VERY hard for me to care about the intricacies of Pet mode or Driver+, etc until they actually provide my vehicle (and sort out my registration o_O ).

I can assure you that Rivian considering allowing people to add factory PPF sometime in the future has absolutely no bearing on them getting you the truck you preordered. Everything in manufacturing isn’t zero sum. Nothing is being taken away from you by Rivian considering offering PPF in the future.

Yes I understand this point. I know two things can happen simultaneously. I'll put my concern another way. I at least want them to appear they are putting as much effort into correcting supply chain issues / improving manufacturing efficiency as they are in adding widgets to the app / PPF, etc. Most of the communication we have gotten has been around software improvements. I want more manufacturing updates.

Additionally, all companies have finite resources and have to allocate those resources. I would like a (apparently) higher portion of those resources to go to making physical trucks. I just want a vehicle, not a supercomputer. Who knows? Maybe they are busting their butts and doing everything they possibly can, and this is it. If that's the case I'm kind of worried.

I agree its not an absolute zero sum game, but it is at least partially one. The more they spend on software engineers / videographers / Gideons / PPF shop evaluators means less they are willing to offer subcontractors for semiconductors / 20 inch rims / White Ocean wood trim / reinforced underbody shields. Even Rivian's Billions have limits.

What "bad press" did you see? I was surprised that nobody had written in the "line jumping", but maybe i missed the articles. I did see an article or two about the 40 day deliveries but it was pretty meh wrt to tone.

Just curious, as someone with no hope of getting access to the shop (9/21 preorder), is there an option in the shop for people to say “No thanks, I want my original config”? If your theory holds true (and I think it will), at some point they’re going to get a decent pool of people with shop access that aren’t picking a truck with a random config. One would think that giving these people the option to decline R1 shop access would free up a spot for less picky folks who just want a truck (or people who have had a guide for 2+ months with no movement)..

There is no such option. The problem is what if my exact build is declined by someone and lands in the shop? That scenario keeps me checking every day and would prevent me from opting out.

I do think people are added every week, just no one is removed. There is no theoretical limit on how many can have access.

Huh, I guess I never even considered that a possibility. I guess dumping it in the shop is way easier than trying to determine who is “rightfully next in line” for that configuration across the country. Makes sense, and good point!

Let's see how long it takes now.

I'm in Las Vegas with a 11/2020 reservation.

I originally had a R1T, LE, LG, BM, 20"AT with a May June delivery window that was changed to October November delivery window.

Yesterday the R1 shop popped up on my account. It only had two trucks, both Compass Yellow one Adventure, one Limited Edition only difference was Adventure had 21" Street wheels both the same price 77,5.

I tried financing through Bank of America but they wanted the final invoice price which Rivian doesn't provide in the financing step. They only provide a purchase summary which BofA didn't like. So, just went with Rivian financing. It was easy and much quicker.

7/6/22- I took the R1T, LE, CY, FE, 20"AT. With the VIN ending in the 8000's
7/7/22- Completed 7 of the 8 steps today.

Now I wait.
I haven't heard anything via email or from my Guide about Shop access. I check my account on Monday the 4th and there was a green banner across the top saying I had Shop access. I selected the truck and was assigned a Vin 8876 within minutes. I'm getting a UPS delivery today must be the Charger and All Weather Mats. But no truck delivery date yet. Step 8 is still locked.

About the same situation as you although I have no UPS coming. Guide told me 2-4 weeks.

I'm trading my 17 taco for the rivian. I have to say it's been the best vehicle I have ever owned. Put in gas and go, that's it. Besides oil changes every 10k I've literally never done anything else. Gotta admit I'm a little worried going from bullet proof to growing pains. Waiting it out at least you will be getting a better Rivian when it does finally arrive.
