Hi

Dropping off the truck this morning for Xpel treatment, they noticed long scratches on the front bumper. Have had the truck about a week. Is this something covered under warranty? Was sick during pick up and didn't get to really walk around to check for these things.

Normally, no. You could have gotten scratched while the vehicle was in your possession. You'd have to prove it was a pre-existing condition, imo.

I can't speak for Rivian but in my experience probably not. Unless it is clear that it is some kind of manufacturing defect. Do you have any pictures?

My installer found a couple of issues after I had my truck for a week. Scratches in hood clear coat. Scratch and discoloration of the flat plastic piece over the front bumper. Trim damage on the right front wheel arch. Rivian took care of it all.

How bad are they? Deep, or can they be buffed out with some Meguire's scratch x? Since you have silver, and you didn't notice them initially...I'd say the Xpel (if clear ppf) would probably hide them.

No, not covered by warranty. Inspect your vehicle before signing off on it.

Xpel noticed it this morning at drop off. Its on the black bumper portion. They said they could try to buff out the top one, but the other is too low to do anything about.

They also found a small paint defect from factory on the hood.

It'll be interesting to see how many 'defects' pop up as vehicles show up at the XPEL installers. I think a lot of those installers feel like they're kind of getting screwed. Some are probably real and missed during initial inspection, but always a little suspicious of people doing work with a little bit of an axe to grind, too.

I’ve had a lot of vehicles detailed and almost every one had some defects. It’s really easy to scratch cars which is why PPF and ceramics are a thing in the first place.

That scratch could be simply someone touching it with dirty hands. If I was Rivian I wouldn’t cover it and frankly you aren’t paying for a scratch free paint job. Those start at 10-15k and go up to 100k. Just for the paint, seriously.

As much of a bummer as it is to see this, my Tesla was soooo much worse and deemed within spec by Tesla. No scratches, but lots of defects.
