So I cancelled my reservation from April this year after a brief chat with CS. I was offered a great deal at my local Ford dealer on an F150 Lightning mannequin to reserve until January. Long story short, if you cancel your deposit after signing the recent Buyer’s Agreement then you are refunded $900 of your deposit 5-10 days after cancellation. I hope this helps others in similar situations and I hope my next truck is a Rivian after this one!

Yes, they are legally required to keep the $100 or the tax loophole wouldn't work.
I just saw some questions surrounding liability of a “binding purchase agreement” and thought this might help some people who still have questions.

Did you really sign the BPA and cancel days later?

At least it was just $100. It could have been $5000 if you ordered a Fisker.

Make sure they sell you and actual truck and not just the mannequin.

Our local ford dealer has a Lightning mannequin as well. We went in for a test drive and were told it had been pre-sold so we couldn't even open the doors to look inside, let alone sit in it or drive it.

Two questions: How much are you paying for the Lightning, and why did you decide to cancel instead of keeping the Rivian reservation anyway as a backup plan or possibility to flip one of them later on? Just curious, thanks!

This deal just sort of fell in my lap. I fully intended on waiting for a Rivian. It's a $100 lesson I learned the hard way.

Good questions. There's about a $10k dealer ADM on the mannequin, but that's before the recent price increase. The biggest difference was the V2H capability of the Ford. I love the look and off-road/sporty utility of the Rivian, but it would be far less used than the back up generator capability. I look forward to Rivian coming out with the Max Pack and V2H software (as it is already equipped with the hardware).

Another point is that I live in Louisiana, which is currently about a couple hundred miles from the nearest Rivian service center. After living with the Tesla for a couple years without one (there is now an SC in NOLA), it was a pain to live with the rattles and squeaks of an early adoption vehicle. Also my location would've put me even further away from getting selected to order a Rivian.

MSRP + Delivery/location charge
Edit: +$10k, so it’s over MSRP
If the F150 Lightning fits your needs better than the R1T then all good.

For me personally I just cannot justify the grubby greedy hand of a dealership sticking its hand into my pocket to get their legislated +$$$ non-value add cut$$$.

Up until Feb. 2022 I had a Mach-e on order and a reservation for a Lightning partly because we liked the idea of local service. We walked away from the Mach-e because the dealership screwed us. We then cancelled the Lightning reservation. During the highly frustrating 2 months that our "Delivered" Mach-e was missing our eyes were opened to how disconnected Ford and Ford Dealerships are to each other. Also, we became aware of the service issues associated with their introduction of an EV model. Story after story of Mach-es sitting at dealerships for months waiting for parts or whatever.

BTW our Ford dealer found and sold (MSRP +5K$) our Mach-e 3 days after we cancelled. The agreed price was MSRP. Ford did absolutely nothing to help us!!! Never again!

What the hell is an F150 Lightning “mannequin”? I thought maybe it was a typo, it’s been mentioned multiple times in this thread.
It is the demo unit the dealers are getting for the test drives.
