Late to the party, finally put a reservation in August ‘22 with the hope that some options would stay under the $80k threshold. Very disappointed that no real options exist anymore and likely knocks the R1 out as an option.
I wonder if the inflation reduction act never went through, whether Rivian would have removed the explore package. Maybe if I hang on, an R1t option with a decent battery will present itself in 2024. I guess I can hope, but likely will need to go a different direction. I can’t see the R2 platforms realistically being delivered to consumers before 2026.
Did you sign a binding purchase agreement before the Inflation Reduction Act was signed earlier this week in addition to submitting your $1000 reservation deposit this month? As you know, the purpose of signing the BPA is to potentially preserve your eligibility to use the former EV tax credit that did not have any MSRP or income cap or any battery material sourcing requirements.

I don’t understand your speculation that Rivian might have continued the Explore trim if the IRA had not passed and future buyers would all have been eligible for a $7500 tax credit until Rivian produced 200,000 vehicles.

Max Pack should be around 300 pounds heavier. You don’t just extrapolate from the Large pack, because the framing, etc., for the Max Pack is there for the large, it just contains open space. 300# is the weight of a large person. It won’t affect the specs much.

Also, the Max Pack costs $10,000 more. It’s generating profit. I don’t expect them to cut it at all. If batteries are still a pinch point in 1H23 it may be delayed, but an Adventure Vehicle company needs to offer a long range option.

Max Pack will never be cancelled.

I think that depends on battery supply issues. Three max pack battery upgrades adds up to another regular 135 kWh battery. If cells are a limiting supply factor, then that's another whole truck they could sell and profit from. Hopefully the profit margin on three max pack upgrades isn't higher than the profit on a whole truck.

Unfortunately I didn’t get the option to sign the binding agreement as it was just this past weekend and the page was nowhere to be found.

Removing the Explore trim from the site essentially eliminates any of the R1 vehicles from qualifying on MSRP alone and could filter out new reservations that would only want a vehicle that qualifies. It’s very possible that none of the vehicles will qualify for other reasons as you mentioned, but that isn’t as clear at this point. They are essentially paring out the potential customers that would care about the tax credit so they can get a clearer picture on who will take delivery without one. This is just a thought and very well may not have anything to do with their decision.

I know most everyone here has had a long journey filled with many emotions along the way and mine can’t compare, but just disappointed is all.

The additional 2,592 2170 cells alone weigh 389 lbs. That's without any casing or cooling, just the naked cells. The 135kWh pack out of the frame weights 1750lbs. That's what you estimate from to figure the 180kWh pack. It's not physically possible for the max pack to only weight 300lbs more.

A highly unhealthy person. In Europe, 300lbs is the weight of a family of 3 (2 parents and 1 young child).

“After weighing customer demand,”

i mean… people have been waiting years for the truck and you literally tell people you won’t be building explore for many more years so Rivian help contribute to the demand for adventures over explore the only reason I chose adventure really was because I wanted to actually get the truck in a reasonable amount of time.

Directly from the email:

"Please note that switching to Adventure will not automatically result in an earlier delivery window."

Sounds to me like they're making this change just to try to manage to fulfill their _current_ delivery goals (25k vehicles this year, most current preorders delivered by end of 2023). Not actually move them up.
Right, I wasn't speaking to the company goals. These moves were made so that they wouldn't have to slow down the rest of the year to incorporate OC with the light wood they couldn't get right, and then Explore would have slowed them down in 2023. They've been on track to meet the 25k goal, and they don't want to shoot themselves in the foot by introducing complexity for little to no benefit.

Someone switching from Explore to Adventure by definition is moving up in delivery window, because before that was N/A and they've always said Adventure would be before Explore. Anyone switching from a configuration they have yet to produce to one they are already producing can expect a quicker delivery (e.g. Max pack to Large).

I've got an R1S reservation that's only about 3 months old. So, nothing's been locked down yet. Nor has there been an assigned support rep. I was looking at an Explore Package with Quad. This change now makes that choice unaffordable! I sure hope they realize what they're doing.:swear::facepalm::brokenhearted:

Yesterday, we received an email from Rivian informing us that the Explore Package has been discontinued mainly because nobody ordered it, except us. The email told us if we want a truck, we needed to reconfigure our order to an Adventure Package.

After a short discussion, SuEllyn and I decided that we would reconfigure our order which we just completed moments ago. We ordered basically the same R1T except in the Adventure Package.

In Rivian's email they told us that "once we save our new configuration, our original preorder date will set our pricing and be used for our delivery timing estimate." With our preorder date of November 28, 2018, we should be getting a truck very soon.

We will let everyone know what happens.

Can’t you get an adventure with Dual for less money? Or did they remove the dual motor option?
