What is the biggest glaring "miss" you see with the R1x?

This is why it makes sense to not include it, because immediately there is a difference in opinion on what it should be from two different owners. And they can't offer both options at this stage in their life. Down the road, perhaps, but not now. Better to leave it to owners to do what they want aftermarket and make their life easier. Offering either won't lead to more revenue, so it's just cost and complexity for no benefit right now. When they are more mature, they can charge for it as an option.

It's sort of similar to the center floor storage area. People say there should be organization there, and then immediately there are 100 different opinions/solutions for what that means, including some that want to leave it as is. Which leaves the best option being a blank slate for people to do what they wish.
Very true. Sometimes the best option is just leaving it to the aftermarket. I have a feeling there will be a pretty strong market for Rivian accessories as time goes on. And as you said, people can customize their vehicles that way. I love that about my Tacoma.

IMO, I think the biggest miss is the apps on the infotainment center. The normal person these days has a million apps on their phone or other personal devices. To this point the fact there's only two app's on there (Spotify & Tune-in) is just a head scratcher to me. Close behind the lack of app's miss is the tonneau cover. I get they wanted to get as many trucks out as quick as possible, but putting out a product that you know is extremely flawed and will need to be physically altered in the near future just seems like a WTF are you thinking moment..
For Apps, we're still in the first inning of the game on that so give it time. It's legacy thinking to expect vehicles to be delivered as finished products these days. They've already said there is much more to come there. Down the road the following have all been mentioned by them as possibilities/stuff they are working on: more music apps, video streaming apps, off road nav apps (either licensed or owner crowdsourced).

Disagree on the tonneau with now having the benefit of hindsight. Launching the product last year and thus executing on the IPO knowing the cover needed a redesign that otherwise would have delayed them 6-12 months is the best decision they've ever made as a company. It would have been catastrophic if they had waited until they felt they had a fully solid tonneau, costing them billions of dollars in funding, vs. the $10-$20 million or so it will cost them in a recall/fix of existing trucks. The former would have altered the future of the company, the latter is a footnote in history. They nailed that decision in hindsight, they couldn't have timed the IPO more perfectly.

Honestly your retractable steps might be useful to more owners - the majority of Rivian owners probably won’t be doing heavy off roading. I guess this is why many manufacturers offer convenience packages vs off road packages.

Although I’ve personally always found truck steps (of any style) to be useless without a handle inside to help with actually turning to sit in the seat.
You can have retractable steps that also provide underside protection. Rock Slide engineering already makes them.

I absolutely don't want running boards like that. I don't see a need for them, the truck isn't that difficult to get into, even in the highest setting. I *would* like rock sliders that don't get in the way though.
I'd much rather have the "kneel mode" that has been discussed than steps or sliders. It would be great if they would add the option to have the truck automatically drop to "lowest" when you put it in Park.

Winch bumper that they have taunted us with.
Electro chromatic roof that was on the proto type.
Real buttons for basic features.
I would prefer real cup holders where the charging pad is that most people are complaining about.

Dare I say it a glove box?

Rear view mirror with a camera would be sweet. My boss has one in his Defender and it's really nice

Well, I'd wager this would be an option and not standard. As for not hard to get into, I'm a skinny, fit dude and have never had a problem with any vehicle, period. But I'm not single, I have a family, parents, etc.

My thing with rock sliders is you're either taking away from clearance or you're not really doing much. A retractable step to me seems like the best "all-in-one luxury adventure vehicle" thing that could be OEM-level integrated.

Agreed. Another "unforgivable" and "off the shelf" piece of engineering in comparison the other stuff they're messing with. Another thing that looks absolutely silly to see them wasting time on camp kitchens and whatnot to not have at release.

You know - if they just had industry-standard phone integration that I could find on a new $20k car it wouldn't be a problem, they can take as long as they want.... That's the biggest miss outside physical design for sure.

Physically I think their biggest misses were the extremely limited AC power on board (1500 when you can get almost 8kW on the Lightning), the frunk design (again the Ford is much easier to reach into) and the power tonneau design and reliability, although I'm sure they're working on that last one.
