Yet low hanging fruit would be to remove some color options for exterior.
I am not sure how removing color options would increase or streamline production, given most auto factories can handle multiple colors. As far as I know, Tesla is the only one with such limited selection. Also, removing colors, which Rivian charges $1750-$2500 for, is additional revenue.

From what I recall from an official interview or video with RJ he said that their painting process is such that they can switch colors with each car without even purging the system. With such an efficient way to paint eliminating color choices doesn't seem like it would free up any space.

At 2:30 in the video RJ talks about how they can switch colors with every vehicle if they wanted to. I'd say you are 100% right that eliminating color choice doesn't make sense for Rivian.

2023's will likely have better resale as a LOT of people avoid first model year vehicles from existing manufacturers and will even be more likely to do so for a brand new start-up.

I'd expect at least one additional color added to the roster, and maybe the loss of yellow.
I'm guessing a dark blue, dark gray or bronze-brown color would be added, though I'd LOVE to see a burnt orange color.

Rivian uses a paint canister system that gets changed out after each body is painted. They can paint all 9 colors in sequence if they wanted to.

You can see the Gear Tunnel doors being painted along with the body in the video. They are held in a jig that suspends them above the body.

For those fascinated with assembly shop automotive painting this Acura one is pretty interesting. It’s a very labor intensive paint system that used on their super car, the NSX.

Dark Blue might be sweet!

You heard it here: I predict the first 2023 Rivian will be delivered on 2 Jan 2023, and will be identical to the 2022 model . . .

They have already been a lot of changes in the 22 model upgraded tonoe cover and even the bed lights on mine that just showed up are different like a smoked lence.

More people who are hypercritical over Rivian’s paint or panel fitment need to watch that Acura video. What they do to that NSX is how you get perfect paint and perfect panel gaps.

Notice how many people are involved and how many steps that process has. That’s no accident and it’s also no secret why that car costs 200k. It’s important to realize that even though their process is attempting perfection robotically it takes tons of quality control and paint correction to turn out that product.

You simply aren’t going to get the performance we are getting AND the perfect body at even Rivian’s new price point. It’s also important to realize that the Acura shown is on the LOW end of cost for that sort of paint work.

Has Rivian delivered any vehicles on a federal holiday so far?
