Snazzy Labs dropped a review of the R1S and I think he is the first reviewer who actually installed the compact spare on his review unit:

Yeah... that is triple dog fugly!! And, more importantly looks borderline unsafe at any speed.

I suppose if the flat/blowout is a front tire you have to place one of the good rears on the front and put the donut on the rear.

Was he able to deflate it and fit it back in its spot?

I wonder how terrible it looks with the vehicle dropped from max-height. I have a feeling being at max height is exaggerating how bad it looks.

Especially since the R1S has the 22"ers mounted. It would look less silly with the 21s, I think. (The 20s might still look ridiculous since they're larger-diameter tires. But least-ridiculous would be 20s with 33" tires mounted instead of the stock 34s.)

I hope those complaining about looks really are talking about the positive camber at the high ride height. It's a spare...who cares how it looks as long as it's functional. That said, I'm sure the camber would be better at a lower ride heigh or even just moving the vehicle. My MINI gets in a weird state when you jack up the wheels and just set it down again. It doesn't settle until the vehicle is moved again. That said, I'd in no way want to be using that thing off-road. I've been on record for a long time now saying the R1S needs a full-size spare option that doesn't involve putting ~100 lbs on the roof or inside the cabin for anyone intending to do trails.

Someone has to build a vertical full size spare holder for the trunk area.
