In general, they need to learn how to write emails!! I think a good portion of my overall frustration with this latest communiqué were the obviously unanswered questions, for which they had answers for upon contacting CS. That was the accelerant poured upon my growing "flames of impatience" during this process.
My guess is they couldnt write a more clear email as they don't have the answers yet. For the manual cover and no cover options that's sort of frightening.

The redesign is probably structural so you couldn’t retrofit it. Change your order to Max Pack for a decent shot at outlasting the delay.

Nooooo. No swicthers. We all must be adult and learn to live with our decisions.

Rivian perhaps couldn't cancel automatic tonneau until manual arrived because of the EPA rating.

I understand why they are doing this but at the same time, for those of us who want the powered cover out only option at this point is to “wait and see?” That sucks, as I’ve been doing it long enough.

I literally rather have one that could potentially break, knowing it will be replaced or fixed in the future.

They haven't removed it from my config, nor the visualization studio. Doesn't mean anything, just found it interesting.

I think they could have written a better customer communication despite the fact they don’t have all the answers now. Simply acknowledging the obvious questions customers will have and providing as transparent a response as possible to each of those questions (even if the answer is we are hard at work on the problem and cannot provide an answer yet) would be appreciated by Rivian’s dedicated customers.

Most people with good functioning gen 1 tonneaus will likely want a fix. For resale if no other reason. Rivian doesn't want to accumulate any more gen 1 owners. Just the impact of replacing existing gen 1 is large in terms of cost and service capacity.

But I was also hoping to get a gen 1 tonneau. Replacement in my driveway would have been no problem for me.

High mileage drivers need to be sure to report the broken gen 1 before their warranty expires. Current trends suggest an out of warranty repair will be a bit less than a V12 engine replacement on a Ferrari.

Right. Why ship a truck with a feature that you already know you will need to replace in Q1 or Q2 of '23?

I’ve got to wonder if it would have been better to delay the IPO 6-8 months to allow Rivian to work out some of the engineering/production issues before they had to continually chase Wall Street production expectations? If they did time the IPO correctly, then the benefits of that decision should have been tempered with knowledge that lots of service calls on early production models would partially offset that benefit.

I‘ve got to believe they knew this day was coming and it was a deliberate decision from first customer delivery days.

^If Rivian had waited to do the IPO, they would not have $15B+ cash today to bridge the start up to break even EBITDA, would be struggling today to raise equity, and would not be able to invest in capital improvements in Normal, GA, Europe, or elsewhere.

OTOH, I wouldn’t have lost $ on the stock, so got that going for me, which is nice.

Rivian's IPO timing was superb. Not only due to the overall market, but the certainty that a new company producing a new vehicle would produce some bad press. The fact that people have stuck tonneaus instead of vehicles in flames is a win.

Tesla's IPO raised 226 million

The next bitch session on this forum is going to be the cost of the 2.0 powered tonneau cover being released in 2023. I can guarantee it will be at least $3,000 for the option.
Oh no...the next session will be related to the "updated" delivery windows next week. Or, if they miss their self imposed date yet again....the lack of windows will be the topic. One of the 2. ?
